Description:
The Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) is an ultraviolet space telescope
launched in 2003. It observes in 2 ultraviolet bands, FUV (far-UV) and
NEV (near-UV), which characteristics are:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
FUV NUV
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Bandwidth 1344-1786 1771-2831 (Å)
Effective wavelength 1538.6 2315.7 (Å)
Astrometry (R<0.6deg) 0.59 0.49 (arcsec)
Photometry 0.05 0.03 (ABmag)
Zero point 18.82 20.08 (ABmag)
Image resolution 4.2 5.3 (arcsec/pix)
Spectral resolution 200 118 (δλ/λ)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Two catalogs of UV sources from GALEX surveys are provided:
* the All-sky Imaging Survey (AIS), containing 65.3million sources over
21435 square degrees, has a 5σ depth in FUV/NUV of 19.9/20.8
(AB magnitudes);
* the Medium-depth Imaging Survey (MIS), with 12.6million sources,
covers 1579 square degrees and has a 5σ depth in FUV/NUV of
22.6/22.7 (AB magnitudes).

Global Notes:
Note (G1): Position of the NUV source, or FUV if seen in FUV only
Note (G2): the objid number is a 64-bit integer composed by 9 numbers
(≪ is the shift operator, i.e. ≪n means multiplied by 2n):
objid = (vsn≪61) + (tile≪45) + (type≪43) + (ow≪41) + (prod≪37)
+ (img≪25) + (try≪22) + (band≪20) + xid
vsn = version number of the pipeline
tile = Tile or field or target number
type = Observation type (00=single,01=AIS(multi))
ow = optics wheel position (01=direct,10=grism,11=opaque,00=undefined)
prod = product number (visits, best, etc)
img = visit/sub-visit number (when type=01: 5 bit subvis + 7 bit visit)
try = try (processing) number
band = band: 01=nuv,10=fuv,11=both,00=undefined)
xid = Extraction ID
Note (G3): The artifact flag is defined within a 3x3pix box in the image,
centered on the source centroid pixel. It is made of 10 bits with
the following meaning:
1 = (edge) Detector bevel edge reflection (NUV only).
2 = (window) Detector window reflection (NUV only)
4 = (dichroic) Dichroic reflection.
8 = (varpix) Variable pixel based on time slices.
16 = (brtedge) Bright star near field edge (NUV only)
32 = Detector rim(annulus) proximity(>0.6 deg fld ctr)
64 = (dimask) dichroic reflection artifact mask flag
128 = (varmask) Masked pixel determined by varpix.
256 = (hotmask) Detector hot spots.
512 = (yaghost) Possible ghost image from YA slope.
Note (G4): raw magnitudes do not take the zero points into account.
Note (G5): SExtractor flags are (Bertin and Arnouts 1996A&AS..117..393B 1996A&AS..117..393B):
1 = The object has neighbors, bright and close enough to significantly
bias the photometry, or bad pixels.
2 = The object was originally blended with another one.
4 = At least one pixel of the object is saturated (or very close to).
8 = The object is truncated (too close to an image boundary).
16 = Object's aperture data are incomplete or corrupted.
32 = Object's isophotal data are incomplete or corrupted.
