Introduction:
The General Catalogue of Stellar Radial Velocity is a compilation of
the radial velocities for about 15,000 stars, available to the author
up to January 1951. Systematic differences were carefully studied and
removed, providing therefore velocities in an homogenized system.
The electronic version of the catalog is not identical to the printed
version: notes and designations from "Personal lists" are not included
and galactic coordinates were added.
The velocities computed here can also be found in the "WEB Catalog of
Radial Velocities" (Duflot et al. 1995, Cat. III/190)

Note (1): Good quality velocities are A or B; E should be disregarded.
The probable errors are, in km/s:
------------------------------------------
Qual. Mean error (max. error)
------------------------------------------
A 0.5 (0.9)
B 1.2 (2.0)
C 2.5 (5.0)
D 5 (10)
E >10
* duplicated stars (*)
------------------------------------------
(*) 4 stars are duplicated in the catalog,
and are marked by an asterisk:
5267 (=10360, wrong RA);
12621 (=13358, wrong RA);
14290 (=14872, wrong RA);
15063 (=6418)
------------------------------------------
One star (GCRV 6346) has a quality set to the
unexplained '3' value (present in the printed edition)
Note (2): the number indicates the catalog used in Oname:
4 = Oname is AGK2 (Cat. I/61)
5 = Oname is BD (Cat. I/119, I/122)
6 = Oname is CD (Cat. I/114)
7 = Oname is CPD (Cat. I/108)
8 = Variable star name
Note (3): the observatories contributing to the mean radial velocity
use the following symbols:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A = Allegheny Md = McDonald
B = Bonn Mi = Michigan
C = Cape O = Ottawa
Cd = Cordoba Pk = Pulkovo
Cm = Cambridge Pm = Postdam
Cs = Columbus Pn = Perkins
D = Dunlap Pr = Paris
Db = Dearborn S = Simeis
F = Fehrenbach (Hte-Provence) V = Victoria
Hd = Harvard Vn = Vienna
L = Lick W = Mount Wilson
Lw = Lowell Wc = Mount Wilson, Coude
M = Moore (1932PLicO..18....1M 1932PLicO..18....1M) Y = Yerkes
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Note (4): column not existing in the printed catalog.
Note (5): spectral types usually derived from slit spectrograms.
The luminosity classes are written in lowercase:
d=dwarf, g=giant, s=subgiant, c=supergiant

History:
* The catalog was originally keypunched at CDS (Strasbourg Observatory)
in 1971-72 and announced in the "Bulletin d'Information du CDS"
(1972BICDS...3....2J 1972BICDS...3....2J)
* 21-Jan-2010: description added, and lowercase letters were introduced
in the spectral types and the Observatory abbreviations. The asterisk
(see Note (1) above) was added for the 4 duplicated stars.
