IX/30 Second ROSAT PSPC Catalog (ROSAT, 2000)
The Second ROSAT Source Catalog of Pointed Observations
ROSAT Consortium
ADC_Keywords: X-ray sources ; Surveys
Mission_Name: ROSAT
Description:
This catalogue contains sources from PSPC-ROSAT (Position-Sensitive
Proportional Counter aboard the Roentgen Satellite), as provided
by Max-Planck Institut fuer extraterrestrische Physik (MPE). It
supersedes the 1994 version (Cat. IX/11)
The current release of the catalog is comprised of results from 4093
sequences (sky coverage of 14.5%). The complete version contains
entries for 95,331 detections whereas the short version has 43,156
detections. 2189 obvious sources were not detected by the automated
Standard Analysis Software System (SASS), and are not yet contained in
this catalogue.
These data have been screened by ROSAT data centers in the US,
Germany, and the UK as a step in the production of the ROSAT RESULTS
ARCHIVE. The RRA contains extracted source and associated products
with an indication of reliability for the primary parameters.

Note on S: this flag was added at CDS.
The "short" version file, 2rxs_s.dat, can exactly be reconstructed
from the "full" version file 2rxs.dat by a filter on this column,
i.e. the file 2rxs_s.dat can be recreated by the Unix shell command
grep '^....................S' 2rxs.dat > 2rxs_s.dat
Note on 2RXP, m_2RXP: the name is NOT UNIQUE.
Detections with the same position will have the same detection name;
such detections may or may not represent the same astrophysical
source. A letter (a,b,etc...) was added in the m_2RXP column for
such duplicated duplicated names.
Note on SrcFlags: flags with a dot (.) are turned off (false).
c=CONFUSED : close sources confused detection algorithm
d=DET_STRUCT : source near detector structure
e=EXTENDED : source is probably resolved
f=FALSE_DET : detection judged to be spurious
i=INTEN_SUSP : source intensity suspect
l=LTC_SUSP : source lightcurve may be suspect
s=SPEC_SUSP : source spectrum suspect
m=MULT_DET : complex emission split into individual sources
n=NOT_CHECKED : source not checked visually by operator
p=POS_SUSP : source position suspect
a=ASSOCIATED : another source nearby may influence derived source
v=VARFLG_SUSP : SASS variability flag suspect
w=WITHIN_EXT : source within extended emission
Note on SeqFlags: flags with a dot (.) are turned off (false).
D=DEFERRED : Field not visually examined by operator [always off]
A=ASP_SUSP : Aspect solution suspect [always off]
B=BKG_SUSP : Background suspect
E=EXT_EMIS : Extended emission in field
F=FIELD_FDET : False detections in field
M=SRC_MISS : Sources in field missed
S=SLIS_MIS : Source list missing
X=EXPO_MAP : Exposure map is not correct
Note on Vig: the vignetting factor increases from 1 for sources detected
on the axis to higher values when the source was detected off-axis.
Note on DetFlags: the flags indicate the sliding window detection history
using either the background map (M) or the local background (L),
in the hard / soft and broad bands, and take the values
0 = no detection, 1 = detection
The order of the flags is:
M-broad, L-broad, M-hard, L-hard, M-soft, L-soft
Note on DetML: the value indicates in which band the source was detected:
A = PHA range 11-41 (∼0.1-0.4 keV)
B = PHA range 52-201 (∼0.5-2.0 keV)
C = PHA range 52-90 (∼0.5-0.9 keV)
D = PHA range 91-201 (∼0.9-2.0 keV)
b or blank means 'broad'
Note on Vflags: flags with a dot (.) are turned off (false).
c = variability flag from chi-square test (CSQ_FLAG)
k = variability flag from KS test (KS_FLAG )
u = variability flag from U test (U_FLAG )
f = variability flag from FFT test (FFT_FLAG)
Note on HR1, HR2: The hardness ratios are defined by:
HR1 = ( B - A ) / ( B + A ) , where
A = countrate in PHA range 11 - 41 (∼0.1-0.4 keV)
B = countrate in PHA range 52 - 201 (∼0.5-2.0 keV)
HR2 = ( D - C ) / ( D + C ) , where
C = countrate in PHA range 52 - 90 (∼0.5-0.9 keV)
D = countrate in PHA range 91 - 201 (∼0.9-2.0 keV)
(PHA = Pulse Height Amplitude)

Global Notes:
Note (G1): Some parameter values are undefined (blank) if the ML
algorithm did not run (indicated by Mdet='M').
NB: Maximum Liklihood never runs for sources further than
20' from field center.

http://wave.xray.mpe.mpg.de/rosat/rra/rospspc
The columns S and m_2RXP were added at CDS.

Englhauser, MPE, ) -- the previous version
contained almost no source with Declination between 0 deg and
-1 deg.
