Our mosaic image of IC 348 covers the full extent of the cluster with a completeness limit of J∼19.5 and is therefore sensitive for 2Myr old cluster members with masses as low as M≥0.005M or the mean extinction of the known cluster members (AV∼3.5mag). Description: The observations discussed in this paper were obtained during the night of 2nd Dec. 2001 using the Omega Prime wide-field near-infrared camera on the Calar Alto 3.5m telescope in service observing mode.
