Description:
Spectroscopic observations are presented for objects in the fields
of 4 galaxy clusters at z=0.7-0.8 (Cl 1040.7-1155 (Cl 1040),
Cl 1054.4-1146 (Cl 1054-11), Cl 1054.7-1245 (Cl 1054-12), and
Cl 1216.8-1201 (Cl 1216)) and in one cluster at z∼0.5
(Cl 1232.5-1250 (Cl 1232)) of the ESO Distant Cluster Survey (EDisCS).
We present tables of RA and DE positions for an equinox of 2000
(J2000, epoch 2001), I-band magnitudes for an aperture of radius 1
arcsecond, spectroscopic redshifts for objects in the fields of our 5
clusters, and membership and targeting flags to indicate whether the
object is a cluster member and/or was targeted to be a cluster member
respectively.

Note (1): A colon symbol (:) indicates that multiple spectra were
extracted for a single photometric object. Two redshifts have an
associated ID marked with a colon. Our HST ACS image indicates that we
are seeing two galaxies in projection. 3 galaxies were not included in
the final versions of our photometric catalogues due to changes in
object identification criteria. For these galaxies an empirical ID has
been constructed using the galaxy RA and DE coordinates, and a prefix
of X is given instead of N.
Note (2): z=0.0000 corresponds to stars, and z=9.9999 is used where a
redshift could not be determined.
Note (3): Where a colon is appended this indicates a redshift with a
higher than average uncertainty, while a double colon (::) indicates
a doubtful redshift.
Note (4):
-- A flag of "1" indicates cluster members within 3σcl of
the cluster redshift (where σcl is the redshift interval
corresponding to the cluster velocity dispersion in the observed
frame);
-- "2" and "3" indicate galaxies at 3σcl to 4σcl and
4σcl to 10σcl from the cluster redshift, respectively
and "0" corresponds to all other cases of fore- and back-ground
non-members.
The cluster Cl 1054-12 has a secondary structure 7σcl away in
redshift from the main cluster peak. In this case a membership flag is
listed both for the main cluster Cl 1054-12A ("1A", "2A", "3A", with
same meaning as above) and for the secondary structure Cl 1054-12B
("1B", "2B", "3B").
Where a galaxy can have, for example, both a "3A" and "1B" flag, a
"1B" flag was assigned.
Note (5): The targeting flag means the following:
1 = the galaxy was targeted for spectroscopy as a possible cluster member;
2 = an object was observed but believed to be a "field" (non-cluster)
galaxy based on our photometric-redshift criteria;
3 = an object is a galaxy that happened to fall into the slit
together with a targeted galaxy;
4 = a star targeted to aid acquisition.
