Abstract:
This paper presents the results of a pilot redshift survey of 18
candidate compact groups from the distant DPOSS survey that extends to
redshift 0.2 the available surveys of compact groups of galaxies,
mainly Hickson Compact Groups and Southern Compact Groups. The goal of
our survey was to confirm group membership via redshift information
and to measure the characteristic parameters of a representative,
albeit small, sample of DPOSS survey groups.
Description:
Observed candidate galaxy members of DPOSS II compact groups. We list
here the name of each galaxy, defined by the name of its group,
followed by a letter A through E in order of decreasing brightness;
its coordinates at the year 2000, its heliocentric radial velocity
with its associated error. Finally in the last two columns of the
table we describe what lines dominate the spectrum: absorption,
emission or a mixed kind of spectrum and which emission lines have
been observed in the spectrum itself. Mis-identification of
star/galaxy and other problems found in the spectrum are also
indicated in the last column of the table.

Note (1): 99999 in radial velocity means that no determination of the velocity
was possible or that the target galaxy was a star
Note (2): 990 in the error of radial velocity means that no determination of
the velocity was possible or that the target galaxy was a star
