Abstract:
We have carried out a semi-automated search for planetary nebulae
(PNe) in the INT Photometric H-Alpha Survey (IPHAS) catalogue. We
present the PN search and the list of selected candidates. We cross
correlate the selected candidates with a number of existing infrared
galactic surveys in order to gain further insight into the nature of
the candidates. Spectroscopy of a subset of objects is used to
estimate the number of PNe present in the entire candidate list.
The overall aim of the IPHAS PN project is to carry out a deep census
of PNe in the northern Galactic plane, an area where PN detections are
clearly lacking.
The PN search is carried out on the IPHAS photometric catalogues. The
candidate selection is based on the IPHAS and 2MASS/UKIDSS colours of
the objects and the final candidate selection is made visually.
Description:
1005 objects selected from the IPHAS survey catalogue. Of these 721
are new PN candidates while 224 are known objects. Also listed is the
information for counterparts in the 2MASS or UKIDSS surveys as well as
the IRAS, MSX and NVSS catalogues.

Note (1): Sexagesimal, equatorial position-based source name in the form
IPHASJHHMMSS.SS+DDMMSS.S for stellar objects and
IPHASXJHHMMSS.S+DDMMSS for extended objects.
"J" indicates the position is J2000.
Note (2): The galactic coordinates of the object in the form lll.l+bb.b
where l and b stand for galactic longitude and latitude, respectively,
truncated to one decimal place [deg].
Note (3): Flag indicating that the Halpha magnitude used in the calculation
of r-Ha was measured from a saturated source.
Note (4): IR data source as follows:
2MASS PSC = Two Micron All Sky Survey, Point Source Catalogue II/246
2MASS XSC = Two Micron All Sky Survey, Extended Source Catalog VII/233
UKIDSS = UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey
Note (5): For 2MASS sources see Note (4) of the 2MASS All Sky Catalogue of
Point Sources (Cat. II/246). A value of zero indicates that the
magnitude, or one of the magnitudes defining the colour, is a 95%
confidence upper limit.
Note (6): IRAS data source as follows:
PSC = Point Source Catalog v2.1 (Cat. II/125)
SSC = Serendipitous Survey Catalog (Cat. II/126)
SSS = Small Scale Structure Catalog (Cat. VII/73)
Note (7): IRAS flux quality flag:
* For PSC and SSC sources (Cat. II/125, VII/73):
3 = high quality;
2 = moderate quality;
1 = upper limit;
* For SSS sources (Cat. II/126):
A = high quality;
B = intermediate quality;
F = low quality
Note (8): MSX flux quality flag (Cat. V/114):
4 = excellent;
3 = good;
2 = fair;
1 = limit
Note (9): Indicates if the candidate is within the PN zone in the
respective diagrams. Value is either yes or no.
Note (10): The PN score is defined from the distance to the selection lines
in the IPHAS and 2MASS diagrams as well as the locations in the IR
diagnostic diagrams in the following way: in the IPHAS two-colour
diagram the distance in magnitudes to the lowest selection line is
calculated. To this we add the calculated distance in magnitudes from
the selection line in the 2MASS two-colour diagram.
If the object is located to the left of this selection line the
distance is simply set to zero. If in addition the object is located
in the PN zone in any of the infrared diagrams, its score is increased
by one for each IR diagrams where the object is in the right zone.
Note (11): A ? in this column indicates that we consider the SIMBAD type as
not well established.
Note (12): The type and name are given as found in SIMBAD apart from 10
objects which have been published in the MASH and MASH-II PN
catalogues and that were not yet listed in SIMBAD.
Note (13): Cross reference with other IPHAS selected catalogues, MASH and
MASH-II, as follows:
C = IPHAS symbiotic star candidates, Corradi et al., 2008,

Cat. J/MNRAS/384/1277
Note (14): Preliminary classification based on follow-up spectroscopy. A
detailed analyses of the objects and the spectra will be published
elsewhere. Objects with MASH-II classification have been followed up
by the MASH project.
