We obtained VIMOS medium-resolution spectra of about 1200 candidate objects with apparent magnitudes 18.5<V<24.0mag, covering both the bright end of the GC luminosity function and the luminosity range of all known UCDs. Description: VIMOS allows simultaneous observation of four quadrants in one telescope pointing. Each quadrant is of dimension 7'x8', with a gap of about 2' between the quadrants. For the UCD survey, we placed four multi-object spectroscopy (MOS) pointings around NGC 3311, the central cD galaxy of the Hydra I cluster.
