Abstract:
Dust attenuation in galaxies is poorly known, especially at high
redshift. And yet the amount of dust attenuation is a key parameter to
deduce accurate star formation rates from ultraviolet (UV) rest-frame
measurements. The wavelength dependence of the dust attenuation is
also of fundamental importance to interpret the observed spectral
energy distributions (SEDs) and to derive photometric redshifts or
physical properties of galaxies.
We want to study dust attenuation at UV wavelengths at high redshift,
where the UV is redshifted to the observed visible light wavelength
range. In particular, we search for a UV bump and related implications
for dust attenuation determinations.
Description:
The catalogue of UV selected sources in the GOODS-S field is based on
the public catalogue of Cardamone et al. (2010, Cat. J/ApJS/189/270,
hereafter C10) from the MUSYC collaboration
(http://www.astro.yale.edu/MUSYC/, MUSYC Subaru v1.0 Catalog
(ECDFSBVRdetSubaru_V1)) restricted to the fields observed in the
framework of the GOODS-Herschel project (Elbaz et al.
2011A&A...533A.119E 2011A&A...533A.119E) The identifier, coordinates, spectroscopic
redshifts and photometric data from the U38 band to IRAC80 are taken
in the MUSYC Subaru v1.0 Catalog.
Aperture corrections and Galactic extinction are applied to all the
fluxes from the MUSYC project (from U38 to IRAC80) according to the
recipes given by C10 and in the Readme of the MUSYC Subaru v1.0
Catalog.
The MIPS1 data and the Herschel/PACS fluxes at 100 and 160 microns
come from the GOODS-Herschel project (private V0 data release,
described in Elbaz et al. 2011A&A...533A.119E 2011A&A...533A.119E). The cross-match
between MUSYC and GOODS-Herschel data was made on IRAC coordinates
(also used to extract MIPS1 fluxes) with a tolerance radius of 1
arcsec as described in the paper.
