Abstract:
We estimate the galaxy stellar mass function and stellar mass density
for star-forming and quiescent galaxies with 0.2<z<4. We construct a
large, deep sample of galaxies selected using the new UltraVISTA DR1
data release (Cat. J/A+A/544/A156). Our analysis is based on precise
30-band photometric redshifts. By comparing these photometric
redshifts with 10800 spectroscopic redshifts from the zCOSMOS bright
(Cat. J/ApJS/172/70) and faint (Lilly et al. in prep) surveys, we find
an accuracy of sigma(dz/(1+z))=0.008 at i<22.5 and
sigma(dz/(1+z))=0.03 at 1.5<z<4.
Description:
Our photometric catalogue comprises near-infrared data taken with the
VIRCAM on the VISTA telescope as part of the UltraVISTA project and
optical broad and intermediate-band data taken with the SUPRIME camera
on Subaru in support of the COSMOS project (Capak et al. 2007,
Cat. II/284). The near-infrared data we use here corresponds to the
UltraVISTA DR1 data release fully described in McCracken et al.
(2012, Cat. J/A+A/544/A156).
The table contains photometric redshifts and physical parameters
associated to the UltraVISTA catalogue. It contains all the 339384
sources detected on the YJHKs chi2 image (1.48deg2 after having
removed the masked areas). We also include the multi-colour broad band
photometry generated by H.J. McCracken (the full catalogue is
available at http://terapix.iap.fr/article.php?id_article=844).

Note (1): The photometric redshift is the median of the maximum likelihood
distribution. In this column, photo-z are provided only in the clean
areas. Special values are:
z=0 if star; z=9.99 if XMM source; z=-99 if masked area
Note (2): Type are numbered:
0 = galaxy,
1 = star,
2 = XMM source,
-9 = failure
Note (3): Photometric redshifts available for all sources, even if the
source falls in a masked region. To be used with care.
Note (4): This catalogue has not been tested in detail for AGN. No
correction for variability has been applied. People should refer to
the catalogue distributed by Salvato et al. for AGN.
Note (5): Photometry is measured on images which been PSF-homogenised to
1.1". The circular aperture fluxes are measured within a 3" diameter.
*WARNING*!!!: this photometry is the original photometry distributed by
H.J. McCracken. Before using this data for the photometric redshift
measurement, we corrected our magnitudes for the Milky Way extinction
using the Schlegel (1998ApJ...500..525S 1998ApJ...500..525S) dust maps. Aperture
magnitudes are corrected to pseudo-total magnitudes using a
band-dependent aperture correction computed using a stellar
curve-of-growth method (although the images are PSF-homogenised, there
are still small residual PSF variations band-to-band).
Note (6): A shift of -0.369 mag was applied in the B band before computing
the photo-z as done in previous COSMOS photometric catalogues. This
shift is not included in this catalogue.
Note (7): Classification flag as follows:
0 = quiescent
1 = star-forming based on the NUV-r/r-J color-color diagram
