In this first paper of a series, the reduction of the data is discussed, and several comparisons are made with other recent works. Radial profiles are presented for the surface brightness and the characteristics of ellipses fitted to isophotes; global, effective, and isophotal parameters are listed. Note (2): the equinox was erroneously indicated as 1950 in the original table; it was corrected into 1995 in February 1997. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: table3 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 9 A9 --- Name Object identification 10 A1 --- m_Name Multiplicity index on Name 14 A1 --- Filt [BVRI] Photometric filter (B, V, R, or I) 16- 19 I4 s Exp Exposure time 21- 23 F3.1 arcsec Seeing Seeing FWHM 25- 30 A6 --- Run Date of observing run (Month Year) 32- 50 A19 --- Notes Notes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: table4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 3 I3 --- No Sequence number 5- 14 A10 --- Name Object identification 16- 18 I3 deg PA Major-axis position angle (North --> East) 20- 23 F4.2 --- Eps Isophote ellipticity (1) 25 I1 --- n_Eps Code for the determination of Epsilon (2) 27- 27 A1 --- Filt [BVRI] Photometric filter (B, V, R or I) 29- 33 F5.2 mag TMag Total magnitude 35- 38 F4.2 mag e_TMag ?=9.99 rms error on TMag 40- 42 I3 arcsec re Semi-major axis of the effective isophote 44- 45 I2 arcsec e_re rms error on re 47- 51 F5.2 mag/arcsec2 mue Surface brightness at re (/ sq. arcsec) 53- 56 F4.2 mag/arcsec2 e_mue rms error on mue 58- 60 I3 arcsec Diso ?=999 Isophotal diameter (3) 62- 63 I2 arcsec e_Diso ?=99 rms error on Diso 65 I1 --- Q Quality parameter (Sect. 3.2) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note (1): Determined as specified by parameter C Note (2): C=1: measurement in I at mu_I=23.5mag/arcsec2; C=2: in V at mu_V=24mag/arcsec2; C=3: in I at mu_I=22mag/arcsec2; C=4: in I at mu_I=21mag/arcsec2 Note (3): Major axis of isophote mu_B=25mag/arcsec2, or mu_V=24mag/arcsec2, or mu_R=24mag/arcsec2, or mu_I=23.5mag/arcsec2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: table5 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 10 A10 --- Name Object identification 12- 18 F7.2 arcsec Rad Semi-major axis 20- 22 I3 deg PA Position angle 24- 27 F4.2 --- Eps Ellipticity 29- 33 F5.2 mag/arcsec2 muB ?=99.99 Surface brightness/sq.arcsec, in B 35- 40 F6.3 mag/arcsec2 e_muB ?=99.99 rms error on muB 42- 46 F5.2 mag/arcsec2 muV ?=99.99 Surface brightness/sq.arcsec, in V 48- 53 F6.3 mag/arcsec2 e_muV ?=99.99 rms error on muV 55- 59 F5.2 mag/arcsec2 muR ?=99.99 Surface brightness/sq.arcsec, in R 61- 66 F6.3 mag/arcsec2 e_muR ?=99.99 rms error on muR 68- 72 F5.2 mag/arcsec2 muI ?=99.99 Surface brightness, in I 74- 79 F6.3 mag/arcsec2 e_muI ?=99.99 rms error on muI -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- History: * 28-Feb-1997: the equinox of positions in table2 was fixed from 1950 to 1995.0 (error confirmed by Philippe Heraudeau) Courtesy: Philippe Heraudeau
