Abstract:
We report high-resolution ultraviolet and visible-wavelength imaging
of the blue compact galaxy NGC 4194 (the Medusa) using the Hubble
Space Telescope. A complete sample of 38 UV-bright knots is
identified.
Description:
The CCD integration was divided into two 150s integrations to ensure
identification and removal of cosmic-ray events. All data were
obtained on 1998 October 13 UT.

Note (1):
The detector scale is 0.0246"/pix for both MAMA detectors and
0.0507"/pix for the CCD detector. Note that the field of view
of the CCD image is larger than that of the ultraviolet images.
The image centers have J2000 coordinates
RA=12 14 0.96, DE=+54 31 29.2
(Fig. 2, STIS FUV image of the center of NGC 4194)
and RA=12 14 0.96, DE=+54 31 29.1
(Fig. 3, STIS CCD image of the center of NGC 4194)
North is up, and east is to the left.
Note (2): In units of erg/s/cm2/Å. See "Table 1" section above
