Abstract:
We present J, H, and Ks photometry of the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC)
obtained at the CTIO/Blanco 4m telescope at Cerro Tololo with the
Infrared Side Port Imager camera. From the observations we have
assembled a catalog of about ∼7800 sources distributed over an area of
approximately 30'x40', the largest of any survey deeper than the Two
Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) in this region. The catalog provides
absolute coordinates accurate to about 0.15-arcsec and 3σ
photometry in the 2MASS system down to J~=19.5mag, H~=18.0mag,
Ks~=18.5mag, enough to detect planetary size objects 1Myr old under
AV~=10mag of extinction at the distance of the Orion Nebula.
Description:
The observations were performed on the nights of 2005 January 1 and 2
in the J, H, and Ks filters using the Double Correlated Sampling
readout mode at the CTIO Blanco 4m telescope.

Note (1): The 174 sources taken from the 2MASS catalog have a progressive ID
starting from 10,000. Sources from the Muench et al. (2002, Cat. J/ApJ/573/366,
MLLA NNNNA in Simbad) catalog have their original entry number added to either
20,000 or 21,000, depending if the photometry was derived from FLWO or VLT
observations (for sources having both measurements, the FLWO photometry has
been adopted).
Note (2): Based on the Ks band value if the source is detected and not
saturated, otherwise the H band or the J band, in the order.
Note (3): Calibrated to the photometric 2MASS system.
Note (5): Set to either 3 or 30, it refers to the exposure time in seconds of
the individual frames building the image from which the photometry has been
taken. Sources with exptime=3 are generally saturated in the 30 s exposures.
Note (6): Source flag as follows:
1 = source is point-like, detected during the first photometric extraction
2 = source is point-like, detected after PSF subtraction
3 = source appears extended (galaxies, proplyds, diffuse objects in general)
Note (7): Sources detected multiple times have the clone value equal to the ID
value of their first appearance in the database, multiplied by -1.
