Its large, 105deg2 field of view features over 156,000 stars that are observed continuously to detect and characterize planet transits. Yet, this high-precision instrument holds great promise for other types of objects as well. Here we present a comprehensive catalog of eclipsing binary stars observed by Kepler in the first 44 days of operation, the data being publicly available through MAST as of 2010 June 15. The catalog contains 1879 unique objects. Note (2): Binary type as follows: D = detached SD = semi-detached OC = overcontact ELV = ellipsoidal UNC = uncertain Note (3): Kepler magnitude is computed according to a hierarchical scheme and and depends on pre-existing source catalogs: Sloan, 2MASS, Tycho-2 or photographic photometry. Hence the value does not correspond to any given binary phase and provides only a rough idea of the object intensity. Note (4): (Ω-ΩL2)/(ΩL1L2) where Ω is the gravity potential as defined in Wilson, 1979ApJ...234.1054W 1979ApJ...234.1054W. Note (5): this parameters quantifies a third light contaimnation, and corresponds to the fraction of the total flux in the optimal aperture due to all sources other than the target star itself. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- History: From electronic version of the journal References: Slawson et al., Paper II, 2011AJ....142..160S 2011AJ....142..160S, Cat.
