Abstract:
We present a new nearby young moving group (NYMG) kinematic membership
analysis code, LocAting Constituent mEmbers In Nearby Groups
(LACEwING), a new Catalog of Suspected Nearby Young Stars, a new list
of bona fide members of moving groups, and a kinematic traceback code.
LACEwING is a convergence-style algorithm with carefully vetted
membership statistics based on a large numerical simulation of the
Solar Neighborhood. Given spatial and kinematic information on stars,
LACEwING calculates membership probabilities in 13 NYMGs and three
open clusters within 100 pc. In addition to describing the inputs,
methods, and products of the code, we provide comparisons of LACEwING
to other popular kinematic moving group membership identification
codes. As a proof of concept, we use LACEwING to reconsider the
membership of 930 stellar systems in the Solar Neighborhood (within
100 pc) that have reported measurable lithium equivalent widths. We
quantify the evidence in support of a population of young stars not
attached to any NYMGs, which is a possible sign of new
as-yet-undiscovered groups or of a field population of young stars.
Description:
LocAting Constituent mEmbers In Nearby Groups (LACEwING) is a
frequentist observation space kinematic moving group identification
code. Using the spatial and kinematic information available about a
target object (α, δ, Dist, µα, µδ,
and γ), it determines the probability that the object is a
member of each of the known nearby young moving groups (NYMGs).
As with other moving group identification codes, LACEwING is capable
of estimating memberships for stars with incomplete kinematic and
spatial information.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note (1): LiSample flags are for stars that meet the EWLi criterion
(EWLi>2σ or 50mÅ). LiSample flags are as follows:
L = Star has a measured lithium EW greater than 10Å and 2σ of the
published error or 50mÅ. System Primary meets criterion;
F = Star has lithium, but is a member of a more distant group beyond
120 pc. System Primary meets criterion;
A = Star is in the same star system as a lithium-sample star. System
Primary does not meet criterion, but another component in the system
does.
Lower-case letters indicate the objects are not system primaries.
a = System Secondary does not meet criterion, but another component in the
system does;
l = System Secondary meets criterion.
Note (2): Bonafide flags are for stars that were considered as members of the
bona-fide sample. Bona fide flags are as follows:
B = System is part of the surviving bona-fide sample (for the primary);
b = System is part of the surviving bona-fide sample (for secondaries);
R = System was rejected from the bona-fide sample (for the primary);
r = System was rejected from the bona-fide sample (for secondaries);
X = System does not have sufficient information to consider for bona-fide
sample (for the primary);
x = System does not have sufficient information to consider for bona-fide
sample (for secondaries).
Note (3): Types of multiplicity (how it was identified) as follows:
AB = Astrometric Binary;
EB = Eclipsing Binary;
IB = Interferometric Binary (includes Speckle Interferometry);
OB = Occultation Binary;
S = Spectroscopic Singlet;
SB = Spectroscopic Binary;
SB1 = Single-Lined Spectroscopic Binary;
SB2 = Double-Lined Spectroscopic Binary;
SB3 = Triple-Lined Spectroscopic Binary;
VB = Visual Binary (generally common-proper-motion);
? = Unknown Binary.
Note (4): Durchmustrung identifiers are from Argelander 1859-1903, Cat. I/122;
Schoenfeld et al. 1886, Cat. I/119; Thome 1892-1932, Cat. I/114 and
Gill et al. 1895-1900, Cat. I/108.
Note (5): Joint photometry flag as follows:
J = Quoted quantity actually refers to an unresolved detection that includes
this object. Photometry is the sum of two or more blended sources;
D = Quoted quantity has been deblended into approximate individual
measurements. Photometry of blended source has been deblended.
Note (6): Quality strings have been reproduced from the source papers and are a
mix of different scales, with the exception of "BF," which always
denotes an identification as a bona fide member.
Note (7): These individual values have been combined into weighted means.
Note (8): Quality as follows:
e = Error has been set to a default value (see Paper).
