First number (Code) designates one of the detached, semi-detached or contact system. Second and third numbers are used for subclass and additional information on evolutionary class if known. Codes are defined as follows: 1 1 0 = Detached main sequence system 1 2 0 = Detached subgiant system 1 3 0 = Detached giant or supergiant system of unknown sub-class 1 3 1 = Detached system with early-type giants or supergiants 1 3 2 = Detached system with late-type giant or supergiant 1 4 0 = White dwarf system 1 5 0 = Symbiotic detached system 2 0 0 = Semi-detached system of unknown sub-class 2 1 0 = Classical algol 2 2 0 = Cool semi-detached system 2 3 0 = Hot semi-detached system 2 4 1 = Cataclysmic semi-detached system 2 4 2 = Massive X-ray semi-detached system 2 4 3 = Low mass X-ray semi-detached system 3 0 0 = Contact system of unknown sub-class 3 1 0 = Near-contact system of unknown sub-class 3 1 1 = Near-contact F system 3 1 2 = Near-contact V system 3 2 0 = Early-type contact system 3 3 0 = Late-type contact system of unknown sub-class 3 3 1 = Late-type contact A system 3 3 2 = Late-type contact W system 3 4 0 = Contact giant or supergiant system Note (2): Integer codes for SpType are used for convenient data analysis. First digit of both I3 B_SpCode1 and B_SpCode2 designates lower limit on SpType (O,B,..etc.) of the primary and secondary spectra respectively as follows: 1 = O 2 = B 3 = A 4 = F 5 = G 6 = K 7 = M 0 = Last two digits designate spectral (subclass x 10). For example SpType B1.5 is coded as 215, while F3 is coded as 430. We use second sets of I3 number b_SpCode1 and b_SpCode2 for upper limit on SpType of the primary and secondary if given. For example second set of I3 codes is needed to encode SpType A8/F1 or B1-B2. For SpType A8/F1 B_SpCode1 equals to 380 while b_SpCode1 equals to 410. If SpType is unique then b_SpCode equals to 000. If only SpType without subclass is given then B_SpCode and b_SpCode are lower and upper limit for possible SpType. For example SpType F is encoded as 400 499. Note (3): Float code for luminosity class is used for both primary and secondary. First digit (before .) denotes lower limit for luminosity class as follows: 1 = I 2 = II 3 = III 4 = IV 5 = V 6 = VI (sd, subdwarf) 7 = VII (WD, white dwarf) The second digit (after .) designates upper limit for luminosity class. For example luminosity class IV/V is coded as 4.5, while luminosity class III is coded as 3.0. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: refs.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 9 A9 --- GCVS Variable star GCVS designation 11- 24 A14 --- Parameter Name of changed parameter (1) 26- 28 I3 --- Ref Reference in bib.dat file -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note (1): Designation of changed parameters are: SystemClass = evolutionary class of the system CurveType = morphological type of the light curve VarType = additional variability type Max = magnitude of star at maximum brightness A1 = depth of the primary minimum A2 = depth of the secondary minimum PhotometryFlag = flag on photometry accuracy Period = period of the variable star PeriodVar = flag on the variability of Period DI = duration of primary eclipse DII = duration of secondary eclipse dI = duration of totality in primary eclipse dII = duration of totality in secondary eclipse MinIIMinI = phase of secondary minimum SpType = MK Spectral type SpType1 = MK Spectral type for primary SpType2 = MK Spectral type for secondary ChromActive = flag on the chromospherical activity -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: bib.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 4 I4 --- Ref Reference number 6- 36 A31 --- Author Author(s) 38- 56 A19 --- BibCode CDS or ADS bibcode 58-123 A66 --- Com Comment -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: lack.dat contrad.dat marginal.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 9 A9 --- GCVS Variable star GCVS designation 11- 17 A7 --- OClass Evolutionary class of the system, determined in the original investigations (G1) 19- 72 A54 --- Description Short description -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: altern.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 9 A9 --- GCVS Variable star GCVS designation 11- 13 A3 --- PClass Evolutionary class of the system, determined by classification procedure (G1) 15- 17 I3 --- CMP ?
