Description:
File flanking.dat contains Unpublished Catalogue of Galaxies
identified by the DEEP Team in the Flanking Fields. This is the source
catalogue that Vogt et al. (1997ApJ...479L.121V 1997ApJ...479L.121V), Phillips et al.
(1997ApJ...489..543P 1997ApJ...489..543P), Guzman et al. (1997ApJ...489..559G 1997ApJ...489..559G), and Mendez
& Guzman (1998A&A...333..106M 1998A&A...333..106M) used to select objects.
The photometry in this catalogue was carried out using circular
apertures of 3 arcsec diameter, as described by Phillips et al.
(1997ApJ...489..543P 1997ApJ...489..543P). These will present small differences (∼0.12mag,
rms) relative to published values for the sample of 51 compact
galaxies that were analysed by Phillips et al. (1997ApJ...489..543P 1997ApJ...489..543P)
and Guzman et al. (1997ApJ...489..559G 1997ApJ...489..559G). This is because for the
papers, the I(814) magnitudes were recalculated using elliptical
apertures to 8 arcsec. The differences should only be significant in
the case of galaxies with larger apparent sizes or with elongated
shapes.

5 = iw, inner west field

Note (2): RA and DE are in the same astrometric system defined by the
position of objects in the HDF, as listed in version 1 of the catalogs
provided by the HDF team. The positions listed here are internally
consistent (rms<0.2arcsec).
Note (3): Redshifts were assigned by matching the positions listed by A.
Phillips in his redshift compilation within a 3" radius.
Note (4): Half-light radii and surface brightnesses were derived from the
curve of growth using circular apertures up to 3" diameter. Note that
those values derived for large objects are most likely in error. No
corrections for PSF were applied.
Note (5): V(606) aperture magnitudes were measured in circular apertures
with r=1.12arcsec (i.e., 2xPSF) from V(LRIS) images, and transformed
to the HST F606 Vega system using HDF objects in common.
Note (6): I(814) aperture magnitudes were measured in circular apertures
with r=1.12arcsec from degraded HST images (using the PSF of the
V(LRIS) image.
