Abstract:
We present deep VI photometry of stars in the globular cluster M5
(NGC 5904) based on images taken with the Hubble Space Telescope. The
resulting color-magnitude diagram reaches below V∼7mag, revealing the
upper 2-3mag of the white dwarf cooling sequence and main-sequence
stars 8mag and more below the turnoff.
Description:
Images of a region in M5 were obtained using the Wide Field and
Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) aboard HST as part of program GO-8310.

Note (2): Identification of WFPC chip (2=WF2; 3=WF3; 4=WF4)
Note (3): The WFPC2 region is located at equatorial coordinates
15:18:36.00+02:08:18.4 (J2000.0), about 200" north of the cluster
center at a point providing a high surface density of WDs with
minimal crowding by bright cluster stars.
Note (4): Specifically, the frame-to-frame standard error of the mean,
propagated through the photometric transformation equations of
Silbermann et al. (1996ApJ...470....1S 1996ApJ...470....1S).
Note (5): The value of class is approximately the probability that any given
object is stellar, with 1.0 representing definite resolved sources,
and 0.0 representing definite non-stellar sources.
