Abstract:
The recent star formation (SF) in the early-type spiral galaxy M81 is
characterized using imaging observations from the far-ultraviolet to
the far-infrared. We compare these data with models of the stellar,
gas, and dust emission for subgalactic regions.
Description:
We have compiled a variety of imaging and spectroscopic data for M81
covering the UV, optical, NIR, MIR, and FIR wavelengths.
Observations of M81 in the MIR and FIR were carried out with Spitzer
as a part of the SINGS Legacy Project. The Infrared Array Camera
obtained images of M81 at 3.6, 4.5, 5.8, and 8.0um in 2004 May.
Images at 24, 70 and 160um were taken with the Multiband Imaging
Photometer for Spitzer at three different epochs (to remove artifacts)
in 2003 November and 2004 October; GALEX observed M81 on 2003 December
8 for a total of 3089s split across two orbits.
We complement the UV GALEX data and the MIR/FIR Spitzer images with
optical and NIR data obtained at different ground-based facilities.
UBVRI observations were carried out in 2004-2005 with the 2.3m Bok
Telescope at Steward Observatory using the prime focus wide-field
imager
