Abstract:
Critical insights on galaxy evolution stem from the study of bars.
With the advent of HST surveys that trace bars in the rest-frame
optical out to z∼1, it is critical to provide a reference baseline for
bars at z∼0 in the optical band. We present results on bars at z∼0 in
the optical and NIR based on 180 spirals from OSUBSGS (Eskridge et
al., 2002, Cat. J/ApJS/143/73).

Note (1): There are 136 moderately inclined galaxies (sample S4)
and 33 highly inclined galaxies.
Note (2): From the RC3 (de Vaucouleurs et al., 1991, Cat. VII/155).
Note (3): Based on visual inspection of optical images and runs as follows:
B = strongly barred
AB = weakly barred
A = unbarred
Note (4): Most values are from the NBG (Tully, 1988, Cat. VII/118), which
assumes a Hubble constant of 75km/s/Mpc. Exceptions are NGC 6753,
NGC 6782, NGC 5078, NGC 6907, NGC 7814, and ESO 142-19, for which
distances from RC3 (Cat. VII/155) are used.
Note (5): Values are from the NBG, except for NGC 6753, NGC 6782, NGC 5078,
NGC 6907, NGC 7814, and ESO 142-19 where RC3 data are used.
Note (6): Calculated the (B-V)T color from RC3 (Cat. VII/155).
Note (7): From the IRAS Revised Bright Galaxy Sample (Sanders et al., 2003,
Cat. J/AJ/126/1607).

Note (1): Calculated from B band ellipse fits before deprojection;
Note (2): from ellipse fits after deprojection:
u = unbarred
b = barred
? = Initially classified as "b", however the bar signature in the
radial profiles is marginal. Further inspection has shown that
this galaxy should be unbarred.
Note (3): Of large-scale bar after deprojection.
