Abstract:
We combine the CfA3 supernovae Type Ia (SN Ia) sample with samples
from the literature to calculate improved constraints on the dark
energy equation of state parameter, w. The CfA3 sample is added to the
Union set of Kowalski et al. (2008, Cat. J/ApJ/686/749) to form the
Constitution set and, combined with a baryonic acoustic oscillations
(BAO) prior, produces 1+w=0.013+0.066-0.068 (0.11syst), consistent
with the cosmological constant. The CfA3 addition makes the
cosmologically useful sample of nearby SN Ia between 2.6 and 2.9 times
larger than before, reducing the statistical uncertainty to the point
where systematics play the largest role. We use four light-curve
fitters to test for systematic differences: SALT, SALT2, MLCS2k2
(RV=3.1), and MLCS2k2 (RV=1.7).
Description:
In this paper, we combine the latest sample of nearby SN Ia optical
photometry from the CfA SN Group (CfA3 sample; Hicken et al. 2009,
Cat. J/ApJ/700/331) with samples from the literature and use four
light-curve fitters to calculate dark energy values: SALT (Guy et al.
2005A&A...443..781G 2005A&A...443..781G), SALT2 (Guy et al. 2007A&A...466...11G 2007A&A...466...11G), MLCS2k2
(Jha et al. 2007, Cat. J/ApJ/659/122) with RV=3.1 (MLCS31) and MLCS2k2
with RV=1.7 (MLCS17).

Note (1): The uncertainty is a modified value for the Union set SN Ia,
calculated by subtracting the color and stretch uncertainties from
σ_µ of K08 so as to include the sample-dependent systematic
uncertainty of K08. For the CfA3 sample, 0.138mag is added in
quadrature to the actual uncertainty of Bmag.
Note (2): Calculated with Ho=65km/s/Mpc, Bmag=-19.46,
α=1.34+0.08-0.08 and β=2.59+0.12-0.08.
Uncertainty includes uncertainties of Bmag, s, c,
σv-pec(400km/s), and σ_z.
