Abstract:
We present a set of 109 new, high-precision Keck/HIRES radial velocity
(RV) observations for the solar-type star HD 32963. Our data set
reveals a candidate planetary signal with a period of 6.49±0.07yr
and a corresponding minimum mass of 0.7±0.03 Jupiter masses. Given
Jupiter's crucial role in shaping the evolution of the early Solar
System, we emphasize the importance of long-term RV surveys. Finally,
using our complete set of Keck radial velocities and correcting for
the relative detectability of synthetic planetary candidates orbiting
each of the 1122 stars in our sample, we estimate the frequency of
Jupiter analogs across our survey at approximately 3%.
Description:
The Lick-Carnegie Exoplanet Survey (LCES) is a search for exoplanets
using the Keck I optical telescope of the W. M. Keck Observatory in
Hawaii.
We used the HIRES spectrometer telescope for all the radial velocity
(RV) observations presented in this paper. Table 2 shows the complete
set of our RV observations for HD 32963. Our data set comprises 109
measurements over approximately 16 years (5838 days); between 1998
January 24 and 2014 January 18.

Note (1): The S-index measures the ratio of flux from 1Å bins surrounding
the line centers of the CaII H & K lines (at 3968.47 and 3933.66Å),
as compared to two broader 25Å bandpasses at 250Å to either side
of the CaII H & K line location. The S-index is considered a proxy for
chromospheric stellar activity. See section 2.
