Abstract:
We present a "super-deblended" far-infrared (FIR) to (sub)millimeter
photometric catalog in the Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS), prepared
with the method recently developed by Liu+ 2018 (J/ApJ/853/172), with
key adaptations. We obtain point-spread function fitting photometry at
fixed prior positions including 88,008 galaxies detected in VLA 1.4,
3GHz, and/or MIPS 24µm images. By adding a specifically carved
mass-selected sample (with an evolving stellar mass limit), a highly
complete prior sample of 194428 galaxies is achieved for deblending
FIR/(sub)mm images. We performed "active" removal of nonrelevant
priors at FIR/(sub)mm bands using spectral energy distribution fitting
and redshift information. In order to cope with the shallower COSMOS
data, we subtract from the maps the flux of faint nonfitted priors and
explicitly account for the uncertainty of this step. The resulting
photometry (including data from Spitzer, Herschel, SCUBA2, AzTEC,
MAMBO, and NSF's Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array at 3 and 1.4GHz)
displays well-behaved quasi-Gaussian uncertainties calibrated from
Monte Carlo simulations and tailored to observables (crowding,
residual maps). Comparison to ALMA photometry for hundreds of sources
provides a remarkable validation of the technique. We detect
11220 galaxies over the 100-1200µm range extending to zphot∼7. We
conservatively selected a sample of 85 z>4 high-redshift candidates
significantly detected in the FIR/(sub)mm, often with secure radio
and/or Spitzer/IRAC counterparts. This provides a chance to
investigate the first generation of vigorous starburst galaxies
(SFRs∼1000M☉/yr).
Description:
The imaging data sets on which measurements are performed in this
paper are obtained from various surveys: MIPS 24um data is the GO3
image from the COSMOS-Spitzer program (PI: D. Sanders;
Le Floc'h et al. 2009ApJ...703..222L 2009ApJ...703..222L), Herschel/PACS 100 and 160um
data are from the PEP (PI: D. Lutz; Lutz+ 2011, J/A+A/532/A90) and
CANDELS-Herschel (PI: M. Dickinson) programs, while SPIRE 250, 350,
and 500um data are nested maps from the Herschel Multi-tiered
Extragalactic Survey (HerMES; PI: S. Oliver). The SCUBA2 850um
images are from the S2CLS program (Cowie+ 2017, J/ApJ/837/139 and
Geach+ 2017, J/MNRAS/465/1789). The AzTEC 1.1mm data are nested maps
from Aretxaga+ (2011, J/MNRAS/415/3831), and the MAMBO 1.2mm images
are from Bertoldi+ (2007ApJS..172..132B 2007ApJS..172..132B). The deep radio data are VLA
3GHz images from Smolcic+ (2017, J/A+A/602/A1) and 1.4GHz images from
Schinnerer+ (2010, J/ApJS/188/384).

(see Section 4.3).
Note (10): A value of 101 indicates it's a starburst template with a constant
∼31 (e.g., Bethermin+ 2015A&A...573A.113B 2015A&A...573A.113B, Figure 7).
Note (11): Flag of whether the source has SNR_IR>5, so that we only fit
FIR+mm data points for the dust SED component.
Note (12): Flag of whether the source is classified as follows:
1 = starburst (27938 occurrences)
-1 = main-sequence galaxy (14795 occurrences)
0 = unclassified (152,374 occurrences)
Note (13): Flag of whether the source is classified as a radio-loud AGN
(1 = 1660 occurrences).
