Abstract:
Active galactic nuclei (AGNs) show a correlation between the size of
the broad line region and the monochromatic continuum luminosity at
5100Å, allowing black hole mass estimation based on single-epoch
spectra. However, the validity of the correlation is yet to be clearly
tested for high-luminosity AGNs. We present the first reverberation
mapping results of the Seoul National University AGN Monitoring
Project (SAMP), which is designed to focus on luminous AGNs for
probing the high end of the size-luminosity relation. We report time
lag measurements of two AGNs, namely, 2MASSJ10261389+5237510 and
SDSSJ161911.24+501109.2, using the light curves obtained over an
∼1000d period with an average cadence of 10 and 20d, respectively, for
photometry and spectroscopy monitoring. Based on a cross-correlation
analysis and Hβ line width measurements, we determine the Hβ
lag as 41.8-6.0+4.9 and 52.6-14.7+17.6 days in the observed
frame, and black hole mass as 3.65-0.57+0.49x107M☉ and
23.02-6.56+7.81x107M☉, respectively, for 2MASS J1026 and
SDSS J1619.
Description:
Photometric observations were carried out at three different
telescopes:
(I) MDM 1.3m, located at Kitt Peak, Tucson, Arizona, USA, was used on
2017 February 23 and 2018 November 6 in Johnson 4" B filter.
(II) Lemmonsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (LOAO) 1m, located on
Mt. Lemmon, Tucson, Arizona, USA, was used in the B-band filter.
(III) MDM 2.4m was used on 2017 March 20-April 8 and December 8-9).
In total 110 and 101 epochs of B-band photometric observations were
carried out for 2MASS J10261389+5237510 and SDSS J161911.24+501109.2,
respectively, between 2015 November and 2018 July.
Spectroscopic observations were carried out at two telescopes:
(I) Shane 3m telescope, located at the Lick observatory on
Mt. Hamilton, California, USA, using the Kast double spectrograph
(R∼624).
(II) MDM 2.4m observations were carried out with a spectral coverage
of 3970-6870Å and R=617.
