We present the data from the detection survey as well as from the follow-up observations to confirm detections and improve positions and flux measurements. We find 265 galaxies, many of which are extremely low surface brightness. Some of these previously uncatalogued galaxies lie within the zone of avoidance, where they are obscured by the gas and dust in our Galaxy. Eighty-one of these sources are not previously catalogued optically, and there are 11 galaxies that have no associated optical counterpart or are only tentatively associated with faint wisps of nebulosity on the Digitized Sky Survey images. We discuss the properties of the survey, and in particular we make direct determinations of the completeness and reliability of the sample. The behavior of the completeness and its dependencies is essential for determining the H I mass function. We leave the discussion of the mass function for a later paper, but do note that we find many low surface brightness galaxies and seven sources with MHI<108M. This is is probably a detection of an extremely extended H I envelope around M64. The M64 parameters given are the UGC values. g: There is probably a second source slightly blended with this one at the same right ascension, but at a higher declination. It is hard to discern how much this other source contributed to the actual detection and if it could have been detected independently. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: table4.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 11 A11 --- ADBS Name (ADBS JHHMMSS+DDMM in Simbad) 13- 20 F8.4 deg GLAT Galactic longitude 22- 27 F6.3 mag AV Reddening in V band 29- 35 A7 --- Plate POSS plate (I or II) examined 37- 96 A60 --- Com Comments -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- History: From electronic version * 05-May-2001: Modifications made at CDS (flagged by * in byte 12 of table2) table3: "FGG 0436" corrected to "FGC 0436" table2: ADBS name 020045+2809 was changed into 020044+2809 to be consistent with its name in tables 3 and 4.
