Abstract:
We describe the general problem of estimating black hole masses of
active galactic nuclei (AGNs) by calculating the conditional
probability distribution of MBH given some set of observables.
We estimated MBH from both CIV and Hβ for a sample of 100
sources, including new spectra of 29 quasars.
Description:
We compiled UV and optical spectra for a sample of 100 sources.
Optical spectra for part of the sources were obtained by us, at the
Steward Observatory 2.3m Bok Telescope on Kitt Peak using the 600
lines/mm grating of the B&C Spectrograph and at the Magellan Baade
Telescope using the Inamori Magellan Areal Camera and Spectrograph
    (IMACS).
