This catalogue is based on a compilation of spectroscopic and photometric data consisting of data reported in previous papers of this series, plus data from published sources. VII/26), ESO (Lauberts, 1982, Cat. VII/34) or (occasionally) CGCG (Zwicky et al., 1961, see Cat. VII/190) catalogues, then it will have the name from the corresponding catalogue, in the order of preference given above, with the prefixes N, I, U, E or Z, respectively. However if the catalogued object not a single galaxy but is actually a galaxy pair, triplet or group, or if the object has a suffix (such as A, B, N, S, E or W) then it is name is based on its cluster membership (see below). Exceptions to this latter rule are N0085A, N4486B, N4842A, N4842B, N5846A and N6854B, for which no other name is available. If a galaxy does not have an individual name as just described then it is identified by a cluster identifier and a galaxy identifier, separated by a colon (e.g. A1656:D-125). The cluster identifiers are given in note (G1). The galaxy identifier is of the form: source prefix, hyphen, and a letter or a number (e.g. D-125, where D indicates Dressler (1980, Cat. VII/174). (1991AJ....101...57W 1991AJ....101...57W) Note that in a few cases, the cluster appearing the name of the galaxy is different from the cluster to which the galaxy is assigned. For example, A4038:D-033 was assigned to Abell 4038 by Dressler (1980, Cat. VII/174) but our algorithm assigns this galaxy to Abell 4049. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- History: From electronic version of the journal
