Abstract:
We present a catalogue of new spectral types for hot, luminous stars
in the Small Magellanic Cloud. The catalogue contains 4161 objects,
giving an order of magnitude increase in the number of SMC stars with
published spectroscopic classifications. The targets are primarily
B- and A-type stars (2862 and 853 objects respectively), with 1
Wolf-Rayet, 139 O-type, and 306 FG stars, sampling the main sequence
to ∼mid-B. The selection and classification criteria are described,
and objects of particular interest are discussed, including
UV-selected targets from the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UIT)
experiment, Be and B[e] stars, `anomalous A supergiants', and
composite-spectrum systems. We examine the incidence of Balmer-line
emission, and the relationship between H-gamma equivalent width and
absolute magnitude for BA stars.
Description:
Spectral classifications and adopted photometry for 4161 stars in the
Small Magellanic Cloud, observed with 2dF instrument. Also given are
correspondences between the stars observed with 2dF and other
catalogues .

Note (4): Photometric, [PHC98], and [MA93] catalogues are matched
solely on positional coincidence; Sk and AzV matches are
cross-identifications. "000" means no match; subsequent photometry
given as 99.99 means no data.
Note (5): OGLE designation: NN.NNNNNN, OGLE SMC-SCNN NNNNNN in Simbad
Note (6): The unique sum of several flags:
0 = no flag
1 = star for which we replaced photometry with that from Massey's
catalog (Massey P., 2002ApJS..141...81M 2002ApJS..141...81M, Cat. II/236))
2 = star for which we replaced photometry with that from OGLE
10 = star with a successful stellar atmosphere model (χ2<3) fit
20 = star with an unsuccessful stellar atmosphere model fit.
Note (7): Cluster membership information using the catalogue of
Bica & Dutra (2000, Cat. J/AJ/119/1214), plus incomplete matching
with the catalogues of Henize (1956, Cat. J/ApJS/2/315) and Lindsay
(1961AJ.....66..169L 1961AJ.....66..169L, Lin NNNa).
