ADC_Keywords: Surveys ; X-ray sources Keywords: surveys - galaxies: active - quasars: general - X-rays: galaxies Abstract: We present the results of a deep X-ray survey conducted with XMM-Newton, centred on the UK ROSAT 13H deep field area. This region covers 0.18°2, and is the first of the two areas covered with XMM-Newton as part of an extensive multi-wavelength survey designed to study the nature and evolution of the faint X-ray source population. Description: The XMM-Newton observations were carried out in three separate revolutions during June 2001 for a total exposure time of 200ks. Offset in position between the XMM-Newton and Chandra source -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note (1): Best-fitting number of source counts and the 1σ error as output from EMLDETECT. Note (2): If in any energy band there are fewer counts at the source position in the image than in the background map, then the number of source counts and the source flux are recorded as zero for that band. In this case, the 'Counts error' and 'Flux error' columns represent the 1σ upper limit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- History: From electronic version of the journal
