We derive galaxy surface brightness and colour profiles out to large galactocentric radii. We compare the latter to metallicities derived using the near-infrared Calcium Triplet. We obtain stellar kinematics out to ∼3.5 effective radii. Description: Subaru Suprime-Cam imaging of NGC 4494 is analysed to understand the GC system and light profiles of NGC 4494. We obtained a g-band observation of NGC 4494 during a Gemini time exchange program (GN-2008A-C-12) on the night of 2008 April 2. Two additional bands (r and i bands) were acquired on a later date, 2010 April 4, through the Keck time exchange. Spectra were obtained as part of the Spectroscopic Mapping of Early-Type Galaxies to Their Outer Limits (SMEAGOL) survey on two separate dark nights: 2008 April 8 and 2009 March 23 using the DEIMOS on the Keck telescope.
