Abstract:
We study the star-forming regions in the spiral galaxy NGC 4321
(M100). We take advantage of the spatial resolution (2.5-arcsec full
width at half-maximum) of the Swift/Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope
camera and the availability of three ultraviolet (UV) passbands in the
region 1600<λ<3000Å, in combination with optical and
infrared (IR) imaging from Sloan Digital Sky Survey, KPNO/Hα and
Spitzer/IRAC, to obtain a catalogue of 787 star-forming regions out to
three disc scalelengths. We use a large volume of star formation
histories, combined with stellar population synthesis, to determine
the properties of the young stellar component and its relationship
with the spiral arms.
Description:
We extracted the UV images of NGC 4321 from the archive of the
Swift/UVOT mission at HEASARC. The log of the observations can be
found in Table 1. In addition to NUV data, we retrieved the optical
images from the SDSS/data release 8 (http://skyserver.sdss3.org/dr8)
(Aihara et al., 2011ApJS..193...29A 2011ApJS..193...29A). In addition, imaging is
available from Spitzer/IRAC and KPNO (Hα). The reduced,
calibrated images are taken from the fifth data delivery (2007 April)
of the SINGS catalogue (http://sings.stsci.edu) (Kennicutt et al.,
2003PASP..115..928K 2003PASP..115..928K).
