Abstract:
Using a method to discover and classify supernovae (SNe) in galaxy
spectra, we find 90 Type Ia SNe (SNe Ia) and 10 Type II SNe among the
∼700000 galaxy spectra in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7
that have star-formation histories (SFHs) derived with the VErsatile
SPectral Analysis code (VESPA). We use the SN Ia sample to measure SN
Ia rates per unit stellar mass.
Description:
For the purpose of this work, we used the 776447 galaxy spectra in
SDSS DR7 that have SFHs obtained by Tojeiro et al. (2009, Cat.
J/ApJS/185/1) using the VErsatile SPectral Analysis code (VESPA,
Tojeiro et al., 2007MNRAS.381.1252T 2007MNRAS.381.1252T)
