Abstract:
In this paper, we present the most up-to-date list of nearby galaxies
with optically detected supernova remnants (SNRs). We discuss the
contribution of the Hα flux from the SNRs to the total Hα
flux and its influence on the derived star formation rate (SFR) for 18
galaxies in our sample. We found that the contribution of SNR flux to
the total Hα flux is 5±5%. Due to the observational selection
effects, the SNR contamination of SFRs derived herein represents only
a lower limit.
Description:
To estimate the contribution from SNRs to the total Hα emission
used to determine SFRs in a galaxy, we searched the literature for all
galaxies that have optically identified SNRs. In total, there are 25
of them (excluding the Milky Way).
In following tables we give data for 18 nearby galaxies which have
been surveyed for optical supernova remnants (SNRs). In each table we
give coordinates, Hα fluxes, diameters and [SII]/Hα
emission line ratios for detected SNRs, found in literature.

Note (1): corrected for Galactic foreground extinction and [NII] contamination
as in Kennicutt et al. (2008ApJS..178..247K 2008ApJS..178..247K, Cat. J/ApJS/178/247).
Note (2): as reported in the literature. The rule (-) means that no error
estimates were published.
Note (3): used in Kennicutt et al. (2008ApJS..178..247K 2008ApJS..178..247K, Cat. J/ApJS/178/247)
Note (4): Extinction in the Hα band is calculated as AHα=0.6AB.
Note (5): The flux is calculated using the integrated Hα luminosity and
distance in tables 2 and 3 in Kennicutt et al. (2008ApJS..178..247K 2008ApJS..178..247K,
Cat. J/ApJS/178/247). This flux is reported with median fractional error
of 12%.
Note (6): Since SFR is directly proportional to the Hα luminosity (and
flux) (see equation 1), this percentage also represents the fractional error
made when the Hα flux from SNRs is not removed from the total Hα
flux of the galaxy.
