Abstract:
CCD photometry in B and V, taken with the RCA camera at the CTIO
4-meter telescope, is reported for 8800 stars in the field of 47 Tuc
(= NGC 104 = C0021-723). Our data, reduced through the DAOPHOT code,
comprise results from two long-exposure frame pairs in which the
photometry extends from the cluster turnoff down to V∼24, and two
other short-exposure fields nearer to the cluster center which
precisely define the giant and horizontal branches. Color-magnitude
diagrams are presented, statistically corrected for background
contamination from the Small Magellanic Cloud halo, and a composite
CMD and luminosity function are constructed for the entire cluster,
covering an 11-magnitude range in luminosity.

Note (1): Stars assumed to be bona fide 47 Tuc members
Note (2): The first digit represent the number of the field, and the other
four digits the number of the star in the field.
Field 1 is about 16' west of cluster center and has 1205 stars
Field 2 is about 16' west of cluster center and has 1105 stars
Field 3 is about 5' north of cluster center and has 2850 stars
Field 4 is about 5' north of cluster center and has 3641 stars
47 Tuc is RA=00 24 05.19, DE=-72 04 49.9 (J2000.0) in Simbad
Note (3): 1 pix = 0.58". x and y are measured from the southwest corner of the
frame, so that x increases northward and y increases eastward.
