Abstract:
An all-sky comprehensive catalogue of calculated radio and X-ray
associations to optical objects is presented. Included are X-ray
sources from XMM-Newton, Chandra and ROSAT catalogues, radio
sources from NVSS, FIRST and SUMSS catalogues, and optical data,
identifications and redshifts from the APM, USNO-A, SDSS-DR7 and the
extant literature. This "Atlas of Radio/X-ray Associations" inherits
many techniques from the predecessor Quasars.org catalog (Flesch 2004,
Cat. J/A+A/427/387), but object selection is changed and processing
tweaked. Optical objects presented are those which are calculated with
40% confidence to be associated with radio/X-ray detections, totalling
602570 objects in all, including 23681 double radio lobe detections.
For each of these optical objects I display the calculated percentage
probabilities of its being a QSO, galaxy, star, or erroneous radio /
X-ray association, plus any identification from the literature. The
catalogue includes 105568 uninvestigated objects listed as 40% to >99%
likely to be a QSO. The catalogue is available at
http://quasars.org/arxa.htm .
Description:
This is a compendium of all catalogued or APM/USNO-A optical objects
which are found to be associated to XMM, Chandra, RASS, HRI, PSPC or
WGA X-ray detections, or to NVSS, FIRST or SUMSS radio detections. All
detections are displayed, plus double radio lobes where found. The
counts are:
Optical objects - 602,570
NVSS - 266,148 core associations, plus 8309 double lobes.
FIRST - 173,383 core associations, plus 12,844 double lobes.
SUMSS - 59,138 core associations, plus 2529 double lobes.
XMM associations - 57,778
Chandra associations - 32,951
ROSAT RASS - 47,486
ROSAT HRI - 15,523
ROSAT PSPC - 35,607
WGA - 24,226
Each optical object is shown as one line bearing the J2000
coordinates, the object name (from the literature where available),
APM & USNO-A sourced red & blue photometry, redshift, the source
catalogs for the name and redshift, calculated odds that the object
is a quasar, galaxy, star, or erroneous association, and the radio &
X-ray identifiers, up to 10 of them possible although usually just 1
or 2.

Note (1): A blank value indicates this object has been not identified
up to now. If the catalogue is "QO" (QORG), name is e.g., QORG
J012345.6+012345. If the catalogue is blank, name is of the form ARXA
J012345.6+012345, using the J2000 location column as the name. I am
tempted to use names from a sequential name list, e.g., "Bertfriede",
"Bertha", "Berthar", etc, but suspect it would not take.
Note (2): Classification from the Veron catalog takes precedence
over other values. Legend:
Q = QSO from the literature, with redshift (21735 of these)
A = AGN (from Veron, or Seyfert galaxy). (6941)
B = Bl Lac object (803)
q = NBCKDE photometric quasar (>60%). Redshift rounded to 0.1z.

Note (3): Magnitudes have been recalibrated from the original APM/USNO-A
values. However, USNO-A UKST objects fainter than 18.5 can have large
errors. Extended objects brighter than mag 13 can be represented as
far too bright. If "opt" is r/b/g/i/w, magnitudes are from the
object's source catalog.
Note (4): Legend:
p = optical magnitudes are POSS-I E and O.
r/b/g/i/w = optical magnitudes from the source catalog (e.g. SDSS,
2QZ, etc). This is presented if object was not found in APM/USNO-A.
(none of the above) = optical magnitudes are UKST R and Bj.
v = variability nominally detected for both red & blue
m = proper motion nominally detected.
? = "inferred" object -- position and magnitude is approximate for one
or both colours where PSF is listed as "n".
Note (5): The APM provides PSF class, the USNO-A does not. Some QSO
catalogs like the SDSS give morphology which we use here for objects
not found in the APM. Legend:
- = stellar PSF (usually from APM)
1 = fuzzy PSF (usually from APM)
2 = extended PSF. Can be galaxies, merged stars, etc.
n = no PSF available, usually USNO-A sourced.
x = not seen in this color (fainter than plate depth, or confused, etc.)

Note (7): These probabilities are calculated as described in the QORG paper
(2004, Cat. J/A+A/427/387), but the final correction described in
section A.6.1 (page 28 of 2004A&A...427..387F 2004A&A...427..387F) has been made source
catalogue specific, and on average about halved, after comparison of
QORG to subsequent SDSS findings showed we had excluded too many objects.
