ADC_Keywords: Photometry, ultraviolet ; Galaxy catalogs
Description:
The catalog contains a list of 412 faint galaxies selected for their
apparent ultraviolet excess. The galaxies were selected from a 3-color
(UBV) plate taken with the Palomar 48-inch Schmidt telescope. The
14-inch-square plates cover an area of 30 square degrees centered on
Kapteyn Selected Area 28. The catalog includes running numbers,
coordinates, color codes, magnitude codes, morphologies, diameters,
and notes.
The catalogued galaxies were selected by eye from the Palomar Schmidt
3-color (UBV) plate PS24771, centered on Kapteyn Selexted Area 28 and
taken by Usher under conditions of good seeing and transparency.

Note (1): Approximate magnitudes are given in one of two ways:
* compacts and some ellipticals have values estimated with a Cuffey Iris
Astrophotometer that are given to the nearest magnitude
* all other diffuse and irregular objects are coded with B=bright,
I=intermediate, F=faint
Note (2): diameter coded as:
1 = 30arcsec or more
2 = from 20 to 30arcsec
3 = from 10 to 20arcsec
4 = less than 10arcsec
Note (3): notes coded as follows:
E = within approximately 1degree of the edge of the plate
C = confused
S = shows spiral arms
BN = bright nucleus
? = uncertainty

History:
* October 1984 (from Lee E. Brotzman):
the Astronomical Data Center (ADC), NASA Goddard Space Flight Center,
received the catalog on magnetic tape from A. Warnock and P.D. Usher.
That version contained 80-byte card images used for typing the tables
in the original paper. Blank records and extraneous blank bytes were
removed and lower case characters were changed to upper case. This
resulted in the present 412 records of 46 bytes each.
* 09-Dec-2015: description added at CDS, from Lee E. Brotzman's document.
