COMMENT This file contains a new 2018 release of the XMM OM
COMMENT Serendipitous Ultraviolet Source Survey catalogue (OM SUSS4.1).
COMMENT This new release corrects some inconsistencies between IAUNAME and
COMMENT SRCNUM found in the previous release (OM SUSS4)
COMMENT The catalogue was compiled for the Optical Monitor instrument
COMMENT onboard the ESA XMM Newton mission and spans the period of
COMMENT observations from 2000 to 2017.5. The data were processed
COMMENT in July 2018 at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC,
COMMENT Madrid, Spain) by using the XMM Science Analysis Software
COMMENT (SAS) version 17.0. The description of the first release
COMMENT of the catalogue can be found in: Page M.J. et al., MNRAS,
COMMENT 426, 903-926 (2012). The second release differs from the
COMMENT previous one by inclusion of the OM visible filters, besides
COMMENT the UV filters, and by performing source detection on stacked
COMMENT images which allows detecting fainter sources. This second
COMMENT release was complemented with and incremental version
COMMENT containing data from 2013. In release 3 (SUSS3) a new time
COMMENT sensitivity degradation correction was applied to all data.
COMMENT The photometry of sources detected on stacked images was improved
COMMENT and these sources were properly flagged. In this release (SUSS4.1) a
COMMENT new time sensitivity degradation correction was applied to all data.
COMMENT The total number of entries in this release is 8 176 156
COMMENT corresponding to 5 501 173 unique sources of which 1 037 410
COMMENT have multiple entries in the source table by belonging to
COMMENT different observations.
COMMENT The number of observations included into this release is 9749.
COMMENT The meaning of the quality flags (columns filter_QUALITY_FLAG
COMMENT and filter_QUALITY_FLAG_ST) are as follows:
COMMENT bit 0 (value 1): source on a bad pixel
COMMENT bit 1 (value 2): source on a readout streak
COMMENT bit 2 (value 4): source on a smoke-ring
COMMENT bit 3 (value 8): source on a diffraction spike
COMMENT bit 4 (value 16): source affected by Mod-8 pattern
COMMENT bit 5 (value 32): source within the central enhancement
COMMENT bit 6 (value 64): source near a bright source
COMMENT bit 7 (value 128): source near the edge
COMMENT bit 8 (value 256): point source within an extended source
COMMENT bit 9 (value 512): weird source (bright pixel)
COMMENT bit 10 (value 1024): multiple exposure values within photometry aperture
COMMENT bit 11 (value 2048): the source is too bright (rate > 0.97 c/frame).
