We measure the local relation from galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the intermediate redshift relation from ~500 quiescent galaxies with stellar masses 10<~log(M*/M_{sun}_)<~11.5. Nearly half of the quiescent galaxies in our intermediate redshift sample are compact. After accounting for important selection and systematic effects, the velocity dispersion distribution of galaxies at intermediate redshifts is similar to that of galaxies in the local universe. Galaxies at z<0.6 appear to be smaller (<~0.1dex) than galaxies in the local sample. The orientation of the stellar MFP is independent of redshift for massive quiescent galaxies at z<0.6 and the zero-point evolves by ~0.04dex. Compact quiescent galaxies fall on the same relation as the extended objects. We confirm that compact quiescent galaxies are the tail of the size and mass distribution of the normal quiescent galaxy population. Description: We derive the stellar mass fundamental plane (MFP) from a sample of local galaxies taken from the SDSS Legacy Survey. The nominal spectral range of the observations is 3800-9200{AA} and the spectral resolution is R~1500 at 5000{AA}. We examine the redshift evolution of the MFP using data from the 1.6deg^2^ COSMOS field. We have conducted a redshift survey of the field (Damjanov+ 2015ApJ...815..104D; 2016, in prep.) using Hectospec on the MMT to observe ~2500 objects selected from the UltraVISTA catalog of Muzzin et al. (2013ApJS..206....8M). Our typical integration time was ~1hr and the data were obtained under variable conditions in February and April of 2015.
