How to submit a manuscript

A. Electronic submission of manuscripts

Astronomy and Astrophysics welcomes electronically submitted manuscripts. Instructions for electronic submission follow. For the submission of Letters email is usually convenient. This is not the case for the Main Journal and for the Supplements, because the files are much longer; therefore we require transfer by ftp for the Main Journal and the Supplements. Here follow the detailed instructions:

1. Electronic submission of a manuscript to the LETTERS

(i) Please send only one single postscript file: this makes further handling easier (e.g. for sending the manuscript by email to a referee)
(ii) If your file is less than 1 Mbyte please use email. If it is longer use ftp.
(iii) If you send by ftp use the following set of instructions:
- ftp ftp.mpa-garching.mpg.de
- login: anonymous
- password: your email address
- cd upload/aal
- mkdir your surname
- cd your surname
- put nameofpaper.ps
- bye
(iv) Send an email to the editor to confirm your submission.

2. Electronic submission for the MAIN JOURNAL and the SUPPLEMENTS

(i) Never submit a manuscript by email: most files in postscript format are more than one Mbyte large and block our email.
(ii) Send the manuscript by ftp in one postscript file. We accept gzipped files.
(iii) When sending by ftp use the following set of instructions:
- either ftp aanda.strw.leidenuniv.nl or ftp aanda.obspm.fr
- login: anonymous
- password: your email address
- cd /aanda
- mkdir your surname
- cd your surname
- binary
- put nameofpaper.ps
- put fig1.ps (if applicable)
- put etcetera (if applicable)
- bye
(iv) Send an email to the editor to confirm your submission and include your paper's abstract in ASCII format.

B. Regular submission of manuscripts

Authors are required to submit two hardcopies for the referees (this requires the referee option to be set in the\documentclass declaration) to either of the editors:

After the paper has been accepted and upon request from the Editor, send the final manuscript (remove the referee option) as *.tex (with the figures as *.ps or *.eps files and eventually additional stylefiles) to

Please generate a directory using the name of the first author or with your manuscript number. Please use lower-case for all directories. Please send a short information via E-mail to the printers.

Please mark the latex and ps files with your manuscript number and the figures (e.g. 1030.f1) so that there will be no confusion. Please use not more than 8 signs plus extension (abcdefgh.xxx).
