IV/17A HD,HDE,DM Identifications in Open Clusters (Mermilliod 1986)
Catalogue of HD, HDE, and DM Identifications for Stars in Open Clusters
Mermilliod J.C.

ADC_Keywords: Clusters, open ; Cross identifications
Description:
The catalog is a compilation of cross-identifications between the
numbering system of Mermilliod (1978) for stars in open clusters and
the numbering systems of several other astronomical catalogs,
including HR, HD-HDE, DM, LS, LSS, GCVS, IDS, ADS, SAO, and several
smaller lists. Also included are files listing the inverse
cross-identifications from each catalog to the Mermilliod (1978)
numbers. This version updates and expands the version presented by
Mermilliod (1976A&AS...23..419M 1976A&AS...23..419M).
The catalog is in 13 files: the first file contains the main cross-
identification list from the Mermilliod (1978) system to the other
catalogs; the next 11 files contain the inverse lists from the
catalogs to Mermilliod (1978); and the thirteenth file contains a list
of the references adopted for the individual star numberings for each
cluster used by the Mermilliod (1978) system.

Note on LID, m_LID:
Code number based on the cluster in which the star is found and the number
of the star in the designated reference. A brief description of this
numbering system is included in the "Remarks" section below.
The LID suffix is a single-character coded remark about this object.
A number identifies one component of a multiple system. The following
letters also appear:
D = Unresolved binary
S = Supplementary star. The identification for this star is
the same as another in the list, followed by "a" or "s".
V = Variable star
Note on HR:
Number from the Yale Bright Star Catalog (Hoffleit and Jaschek 1982,
see Cat. V/50)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note on Cluster, Ref:
The Reference File (file 13) lists the references to the numbering within
each cluster, as used in the Mermilliod (1978) system. The fields in the
Reference File are defined as follows:
Cluster Number of the cluster in the system of Mermilliod (1978).
The last four bytes contain "BBBB" where the star number
would normally occur. A brief description of this numbering
system is included below, in Appendix A.
Ref Reference which defines the numbering system for the stars
of this cluster. When bytes 1-9 are blank, this field
continues the reference of the previous cluster.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remarks:
A Catalogue of DM, HD(E) and Other Cross-Identifications for Stars in Open
Clusters was received by the Astronomical Data Center (ADC), NASA Goddard
Space Flight Center, from the Centre de Donnees Astronomiques, Strasbourg
(CDS), in July 1985. The original tape consisted of 14 files. The first
file contained a brief description of the 13 catalog files and has been
incorporated into this document. Of the remaining files, the first held
the cross-identification file, the second through twelfth contained the
inverse files, and the thirteenth contained the star numbering references.
Blank columns were removed from the beginning and end of all records in
the inverse files, to reduce the record size from 40 to 26 bytes. In the
reference file, two header records were deleted and the cluster numbers
were reformatted slightly to coincide with the format of the star numbers
in the catalog files, reducing the record size from 80 to 78 bytes.
The file containing the inverse identifications for the stars with
Durchmusterung numbers originally contained only those stars with no
other identification. At the suggestion of J.-C. Mermilliod, this file
was recompiled from the main catalog file and now includes all stars
with a DM number listed in the main file.
The following is a very brief description of the numbering system used
in Mermilliod (1978) for stars in open clusters. It is taken directly
from Mermilliod (1978) and Mermilliod (1985). See Mermilliod (1978) for
a complete description of this numbering system and a list of the
various code numbers used.
Nine-digit numbers are used to identify a star according to cluster
membership: the first digit indicates the source catalog; the next four
digits represent the number of the cluster within that catalog; and the
final four digits are the number of the particular star within that
cluster, as adopted by the standard reference for the system. These
references are listed in the thirteenth file of this catalog. The
following is a summary of the main divisions for clusters in this
catalog.
Number Cluster

2NNNNXXX NGC NNNN = NGC number
