Description:
Absorption lines and absorption-line systems (ALSs) observed in the
spectra of QSOs contain fundamental information on distribution of
matter between the observer and the QSO, and on physical processes in
the Universe in different epochs of the cosmological evolution. The
presented catalog contains a compilation of basic information on
absorption-line systems (ALSs) in QSO spectra. The data are taken from
publications available to the authors up to January 2002. The catalog
includes, in particular, all the data of the catalogs by Junkkarinen
et al. (1991ApJS...77..203J 1991ApJS...77..203J) and York et al. (1991MNRAS.250...24Y 1991MNRAS.250...24Y ).
The catalog consists of table1.dat, table2.txt and the list of
references in refs.dat file.
The present catalog is also available at the site of the Dept. of
Theor. Astrophys. of the Ioffe Physical Technical Institute:

Note on table1.dat: The table contains data on 821 QSOs whose
characteristics of spectral observations are collected in Table 2
(Absorption systems). The data on QSOs are based on the catalog of
M.-P. Veron-Cetty & P.Veron (2001A&A...374...92V 2001A&A...374...92V, Cat. VII/224,
superseded by Cat. VII/235
Note on table2.txt: table2.txt contains information on 16139 absorption
lines detected in the spectra of 735 QSOs. These lines form 8558
absorption systems. In the spectra of 14 QSOs, only Galactic
interstellar lines have been detected; characteristics of these lines
are excluded. In the spectra of 72 QSOs, the absorption lines have not
been detected or identified. The data were included for reasons of
statistical completeness. The file refs.dat contains all numerated
literature sources which are indicated in table2.txt.

Comments: 'B' indicates that the line is blended by non-identified ion(s).
Sign '?' denotes 'possible' and indicates an uncertainty of detection
or identification of the absorption line.
Sign '+' following by a name of additional ion designates that the
absorption line may be identified also as a line of another ion and
may belong to another absorption system with another z_abs indicated
in brackets (..).
Symbol 'nd' designates absence of corresponding data in one of
positions described above.
Words 'no line list' designates absence of all characteristics
(excepting z_abs and the ion's name) of an absorption line
identified in the referenced paper.

z_abs is available in the referenced paper.
Words 'no line' designate that absorption lines are not detected or
not identified in the observational spectrum.
