Abstract:
To investigate the ingredients, which allow star-forming galaxies to
present Lyα line in emission, we studied the kinematics and gas
phase metallicity of the interstellar medium. We used multi-object
near-infrared spectroscopy with Magellan/MMIRS to study nebular
emission from z≃2-3 star-forming galaxies discovered in three MUSYC
fields.
Description:
MMIRS is a near-IR imager and multi-object spectrograph with a 4'x6.9'
field-of-view, operating on the Magellan Clay telescope since the end
of 2010. Mask design followed the MMT mask preparation procedure. The
objects studied in this paper come from two two-night observing runs
in 1-2 Nov. 2010 and 19-20 May 2011.

Note (1): The sources in SDSS-1030 and E-HDFS masks all belong to the MUSYC
survey (Cat. J/ApJS/162/1). The R, H, K magnitudes were obtained from the
references above.

a = Lyman Break and BX galaxies are selected following selection criteria
described in Gawiser, et al., 2006, Cat. J/ApJS/162/1 and
and Guaita et al., 2010ApJ...714..255G 2010ApJ...714..255G

e = z~=3.1 LAEs from Gronwall et al., 2007, Cat. J/ApJ/667/79
Note (3): The literature redshifts came either from the references above or
from the public GOODS spectroscopic catalog
(http://www.eso.org/sci/activities/garching/projects/goods/spectroscopy.html,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note (1): (R) refers to the fact that the rest-frame UV spectrum was normalized
to the galaxy R band magnitude.
Note (2): To determine redshifts we assumed vacuum wavelengths
λLyα=1215.67Å, λ[OIII] 5007=5008.239Å,
λHα=6564.614Å.
Note (3): Lyα emission line fluxes of "BX" galaxies are estimated from
GOODS public spectra (5.7Å/pixel, VIMOS-LR); of LAE27 are calculated from
spectra obtained with VIMOS (2.57Å/pixel, VIMOS-MR), of z3LAE2 and LBG11
with IMACS (1.3Å/pixel) by MUSYC.
Optical emission lines are obtained from our 7Å/pixel spectra.
Note (4): f means sky line residuals can affect the flux estimation.
Note (5): In the case of lower limits, the equivalent width is estimated from
the 2σ upper limit of the continuum. The continuum σ is defined
as its root-mean-square.
