Abstract:
We present the first spectroscopic follow-up of bright (G<15) and
distant (up to 35kpc) very and extremely metal-poor (V/EMP,
[Fe/H]←2.5) red giant branch stars from the Pristine-Gaia synthetic
catalogue. Using INT/IDS observations of the calcium triplet region,
we confirm that 76% of our targets have [Fe/H]←2.5, with only 3% as
outliers ([Fe/H]>-2.0), demonstrating a high success rate (77% for
[Fe/H]←2.5 and 38% for [Fe/H]←3.0). Our chemodynamical analysis
reveals that 20% of stars are confined to the disc, while 46% and 34%
belong to the inner and outer halo, respectively. We associate these
stars with major accretion events and identify three new bright
members of the metal-poor C-19 stream, including the first found above
the disc plane. Our findings refine the stream's distance (∼21.5kpc)
and highlight the power of chemokinematic studies of V/EMP stars. We
publish a catalogue of 215 V/EMP stars with 1D spectra for future
analysis.
Description:
Catalogue of very and extremely metal-poor stars followed-up using
INT/IDS instrument and selected using the Pristine-Gaia synthetic
catalogue. This table consists of the following columns: DR3/EDR3
source_ids of sources, positions in equatorial coordinates (RA, Dec in
degrees) in J2016 format, Gaia G, BP, and RP magnitudes,
isochrone-fitted distances and parallax and parallax uncertainty from
Gaia DR3 where available (distance, distance_error in kpc),
signal-to-noise ratio of the INT/IDS spectra, INT/IDS radial velocity
and its uncertainty (v_r and dv_r in km/s), equivalent widths of the
three Calcium Triplet lines and errors on them (in Å), inferred
spectroscopic metallicities and errors on them, dynamical properties
such as energy (kpc.km2/s2) and action in cylindrical coordinates
(in kpc.km/s), orbital properties such as apocenter, pericenter,
maximum vertical excursion (in kpc), and eccentricity, Gaia photometry
corrected for extinction based on Martin et al. (2024A&A...692A.115M 2024A&A...692A.115M,
Cat. J/A+A/692/A115), and group_number of small clumps in
integrals-of-motion space. An additional table to match the 1D spectra
file (using the target name assigned during the observing run) with
its corresponding Gaia source ID is also provided.
