Abstract:
A small number of double-lobed radio galaxies (17 from our own census
of the literature) show an additional pair of low surface brightness
"wings," thus forming an overall X-shaped appearance. Using the VLA
FIRST survey database, we are compiling a large sample of winged and
X-shaped radio sources for such studies. As a first step toward this
goal, an initial sample of 100 new candidate objects of this type are
presented in this paper.

Note (1): Based on J2000.0 equinox positions in right ascension and
declination. Positions are of the optical counterparts when identified
in the SDSS (most widely adopted), USNO, and APM catalogs, or other
published works (see r_rmag). When the optical counterparts were not
catalogued, less precise positions were estimated directly from the
DSS or FIRST images (Figure 4).
Note (2): SDSS model magnitudes were preferred whenever available.
Note (3): the asterisk (*) indicates a USNO magnitude for this point
source obviously extended in the DSS images.
Note (4): the asterisk (*) indicates an anomalously large g-r value.
Inspection of SDSS data at the five-bands show inconsistent g-band
magnitudes in these cases, and more reliable colors are u-r=1.7
(J1247+4646) and 2.2 (J1411+0907).
