J/AJ/83/1090 Late-type M dwarfs towards the SGP (Pesch+ 1978)

A catalog of probable dwarf stars of type M3 and later in the direction of the South Galactic Pole. Pesch P., Sanduleak N. <Astron. J., 83, 1090-1099 (1978)> =1978AJ.....83.1090P 1978AJ.....83.1090P

The catalog is based on a spectroscopic survey undertaken with the Curtis Schmidt at CTIO and provides a finding list of M stars free of any possible kinematic bias. The majority of these stars are expected to be dwarfs. To the same limiting magnitude, the observed surface density is comparable to that of the faint M stars in the direction of the North Galactic Pole, named 273 over 190 square degrees. Description: This catalog, prepared by B. Skiff (Lowell Obs.), contains accurate positions for the stars published in table 1 of the paper. The catalog results from 32 objective-prism plates taken on the Curtis Schmidt at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in November 1974 surrounding the South Galactic Pole. The entire region, extending between (1950): right ascension between 00:40 and 01:43, declination between -20.5 and -32.8°, was photographed with 3 different prism-filter-emulsion combinations: the 4° prism (dispersion ∼100nm/mm at Hα) combined with an OG-2 filter and Kodak 098-02 emulsion, the 4° prism in combination with an RG-8 filter and Kodak 1-N emulsion, and the thin prism (dispersion ∼670nm/mm at the atmospheric A-band) in combination with an RG-8 filter and Kodak 1-N emulsion. Photoelectric V and Kron-I photometry was obtained in September 1977 with the 1-ml reflector at Las Campanas Observatory.
