Abstract:
We report on new X-ray observations of the large-scale jets recently
discovered in X-rays from the black hole candidate 4U 1755-33. Our
observations in 2004 show that the jets found in 2001 are still
present in X-rays. However, sensitive radio observations in 2004
failed to detect the jets.
Description:
We observed 4U 1755-33 using XMM-Newton beginning on 2004 September 18
(observation B). We also analyzed an archival observation obtained by
Angelini & White (2003ApJ...586L..71A 2003ApJ...586L..71A) beginning on 2001 March 8
(observation A). On 2004 April 27, we obtained continuum radio
observations of 4U 1755-33 using the Australia Telescope Compact Array
(ATCA) located in Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia. To determine
if the features found in the XMM-Newton X-ray image are point sources
or truly diffuse emission, we analyzed two Chandra observations
obtained of the same field, on 2003 September 25 and on 2004 June 25.

Note (2): This does not include errors in the overall astrometry.
Note (3): The date of observation are coded as follows:
A = refers to an XMM-Newton archival observation obtained by Angelini
& White (2003ApJ...586L..71A 2003ApJ...586L..71A) beginning on 2001-Mar-08
with a duration of 19.4ks (ObsID 0032940101) (Table 1 only)
B = refers to an XMM-Newton observation beginning on 2004-Sep-18
for 45.9ks (ObsID 0203750101) (Table 1 only)
3 = refers to a 22ks exposure Chandra observation obtained on
2003-Sep-25 (ObsID 3510; PI S. Murray) (Table 3 only)
4 = refers to a 45ks exposure Chandra observation obtained on
2004-Jun-25 (ObsID 4586; PI L. Angelini) (Table 3 only)
Note (4): In units of 10-14erg/cm2/s and calculated assuming a power
law spectrum with photon index of 1.5 and corrected for the Galactic
absorption column density of 3.1x1021cm-2.
Note (5): Counterparts in Angelini & White (2003ApJ...586L..71A 2003ApJ...586L..71A,
