Abstract:
We report the discovery of three new unbound hypervelocity stars
(HVSs), stars travelling with such extreme velocities that dynamical
ejection from a massive black hole (MBH) is their only suggested
origin. We also detect a population of possibly bound HVSs.
Description:
New observations of faint HVS candidates were obtained at the 6.5m
MMT telescope with the MMT Blue Channel spectrograph on the nights of
2006 December 21-26, 2007 March 18-20, and 2007 May 14-18.
