Abstract:
We describe the infrared properties of a large sample of early-type
galaxies, comparing data from the Spitzer archive with Ks-band
emission from the Two Micron All Sky Survey. While most
representations of this data result in correlations with large
scatter, we find a remarkably tight relation among colors formed by
ratios of luminosities in Spitzer-Multiband Imaging Photometer bands
(24, 70, and 160um) and the Ks band. Remarkably, this correlation
among E and S0 galaxies follows that of nearby normal galaxies of all
morphological types.
Description:
The FIR data presented here were obtained with the Multiband Imaging
Photometer (MIPS) onboard the Spitzer Space Telescope in three
wavebands centered at 24, 70, and 160um. These data, collected from
the Spitzer public archive, do not form a homogeneous and uniform data
set in terms of image depth and observing mode. Column 2 of Table 1
lists the program identification (ID) and principal investigator (PI)
for the various original Spitzer observing programs from which our
sample galaxies are selected.

Note (1): De Vaucouleurs numerical type, T correspondence with the Hubble type
is defined in RC2 (Cat. VII/112). Data values are taken from the
HyperLeda Database (Paturel et al. 2003, Cat. VII/237).
Note (2): When available, distances are taken from Tonry et al.

Note (3): Luminosities in the Ks band, LKs, have been derived using the flux
density FKs published by the 2MASS survey, Skrutskie et al. 2006,
Cat. VII/233.

This differs from our previous notation in which Lλ
represented the Spitzer band width multiplied by the specific
