ADC_Keywords: Galaxies, group; H I data; Surveys; Photometry, ugriz; Ultraviolet; Redshifts Keywords: Galaxies ; Galaxy evolution ; Galaxy groups ; Galaxy dark matter halos Abstract: We present a four-step group-finding algorithm for the Gas in Galaxy Groups (G3) initiative, a spin-off of the z∼0 REsolved Spectroscopy Of a Local VolumE (RESOLVE) and Environmental COntext (ECO) surveys. In preparation for future comparisons to intermediate redshift (e.g., the LADUMA survey), we design the group finder to adapt to incomplete, shallow, or nonuniform data. We use mock catalogs to optimize the group finder's performance. Compared to friends-of-friends (with false-pair splitting), the G3 algorithm offers improved completeness and halo-mass recovery with minimal loss of purity. Combining it with the volume-limited HI census data for RESOLVE and ECO, we examine the HI content of galaxy groups as a function of group halo mass. Group-integrated HI mass MHI,grp rises monotonically over halo masses Mhalo∼1011-1014.5M, pivoting in slope at Mhalo∼1011.4M, the gas-richness threshold scale. We present the first measurement of the scatter in this relation, which has a median of ∼0.3dex and is asymmetric toward lower MHI,grp. We discuss interesting tensions with theoretical predictions and prior measurements of the MHI,grp-Mhalo relation. In an appendix, we release RESOLVE DR4 and ECO DR3, including updates to survey redshifts, photometry, and group catalogs, as well as a major expansion of the ECO HI inventory with value-added data products. Description: The REsolved Spectroscopy Of a Local VolumE (RESOLVE; Kannappan & Wei 2008AIPC.1035..163K 2008AIPC.1035..163K) survey is a volume-limited census of stellar, gas, and dynamical mass in 53000Mpc3 of the nearby cosmic web. RESOLVE contains >1400 galaxies in two ("A" and "B") equatorial strips. RESOLVE-A, covering 8.75h≤RA≤15.75h and 0°≤DEC≤5°, is complete to an absolute r-band magnitude of Mr=-17.33. RESOLVE-B, covering 22h≤RA≤3h and -1.25°≤DEC≤+1.25°, is complete to Mr=-17.0. Membership in the RESOLVE survey is confined to 4500≤vgrp[km/s]≤7000, where vgrp is the Local Group-corrected recessional velocity of the galaxy's group from the original group catalog of Eckert+ (2016, J/ApJ/824/124). RESOLVE contains a uniquely comprehensive, fractional-mass-limited 21cm census (1.4MHI/M*≲0.05-0.1) constructed from public ALFALFA data and deeper Arecibo and Green Bank observations (Stark+ 2016, J/ApJ/832/126), detailed in Section 2.3. RESOLVE also includes high-quality reprocessed multiwavelength photometry (covering UV to NIR) and stellar masses derived from spectral energy distribution modeling (Eckert+ 2015, J/ApJ/8/166). With this work, we release RESOLVE DR4 with minor updates to HI parameters and catalog membership, an updated FoF group catalog, and our new G3 groups, detailed in Section 3 (Appendix). The Environmental COntext (ECO; Moffett+ 2015ApJ...812...89M 2015ApJ...812...89M) survey is a larger catalog surrounding RESOLVE-A in a 440000Mpc3 volume. With this work, we release ECO DR3, which includes updates to survey membership, galaxy redshifts, and the FoF group catalog, as well as our new G3 groups and a major addition of archival 21cm data (Appendix). from duplicate search. No duplicate database entries are included in this table, but this data column tabulates the reasons why particular galaxies were inspected or eliminated as possible duplicates. Possible values are listed below and in section A.2. Code as follows: 0.0: The galaxy is assumed to not be a duplicate, but has not visually inspected. -1.0: The galaxy is the primary target within a merger remnant representing one catalog object. -2.0: The galaxy was duplicated in ECO DR2 and only this entry is kept in ECO DR3. -3.0: ECO DR2 included a second entry for this galaxy that was centered on a spiral arm or other feature. -4.0: The galaxy has a nearby object at similar redshift, but no obvious connecting material or peculiar morphological features indicate a merger in progress. -5.0: The galaxy is within the effective radius of a second galaxy or vice versa. -6.0: The galaxy is undergoing a merger, but both cores are visually identifiable. Note (2): Custom remeasured value from Eckert et al. (2016ApJ...824..124E 2016ApJ...824..124E), provided without foreground extinction correction. A NULL value indicates the value was rejected during SED fitting (see "RejPhot" for measured values). Note (3): Bad r-band photometry flag (see section A.4), marking galaxies for which effective radii were previously set to arbitrary or negative values due to pipeline failures. Code as follows: 0 = No r-band photometry issue, 1 = bad but usable r-band photometry or "rMAG" inferred from stellar mass, 2 = unreliable r-band photometry and stellar mass. Note (4): Log galaxy stellar mass derived using "cz" to calculate cosmological luminosity distances. Please refer to the bad r-band photometry flat ("Badr") when using this column. Note (5): Absolute magnitude based on custom r-band photometry of Eckert et al. (2016ApJ...824..124E 2016ApJ...824..124E), foreground extinction correction included, scaled to "cz" or "cze16" as discussed in section A.3. Please refer to the "Badr" column when using these columns. Note (6): Values include foreground extinction corrections and k-corrections, but not internal extinction corrections. Note (7): As explained in section A.4, we expect non-uniformity in the internal extinction corrections for ECO outside RESOLVE. We recommend "u-rMod" for ECO analyses requiring uniformity. Note (8): Values are set to NULL where "Badr">0. Note (9): Morphological metric mu_Δ (Msun/kpc**2) defined in Kannappan+ (2013ApJ...777...42K 2013ApJ...777...42K), derived using "cz" to calculate cosmological angular diameter distances. Values are set to NULL where "Badr">0. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: table5.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 3 A3 --- --- [ECO] 4- 8 I05 --- ECO [1/13883] ECO galaxy identifier (name) 10 I1 --- E17in [0/1] In-Volume Flag for E17 Groups (invole17) (1) 12- 16 I5 --- g3grp [1/17339] G3 Group Identifier (g3grp) 17- 18 A2 --- --- [.0] 20- 28 F9.5 deg RAdeg [130/237.5] G3 Group Center RA (J2000) (g3grpradeg) 30- 37 F8.5 deg DEdeg [-1/50] G3 Group Center Declination (J2000) (g3grpdedeg) 39- 44 F6.1 km/s czG3 [2525/7486] G3 Group Center cz (g3grpcz) (2) 46 I1 --- G3in [0/1] In-Volume Flag for G3 Groups (involg3) (1) 48- 52 F5.1 --- NgG3 [0/133] Number of Giants in G3 Group (g3grpngi) 54- 58 F5.1 --- NdwG3 [0/216] Number of Dwarfs in G3 Group (g3grpndw) 60- 65 F6.2 mag rMAGG3 [-26.72/-13.57] G3 Group-Integrated r-Band absolute magnitude (g3grpabsrmag) 67- 73 F7.2 mag rMAGgG3 [-26.6/-19.5]?=-999 G3 Group-Integrated giant r-band absolute magnitude (g 3grpgiantabsrmag) 75- 79 F5.2 [Msun] logMhvirG3 [10.84/14.56] G3 HAM Log Group Mass (337b) (g3logmhvir) (3) 81- 85 F5.2 [Msun] logMh280G3 [10.62/14.51] G3 HAM Log Group Mass (280b) (g3logmh280) (4) 87- 91 F5.2 [Msun] logMHIG3 [6.5/11.15] G3 Log Group-Integrated HI Mass (g3grpmhi) 93- 95 F3.1 --- G3fc [0/1] G3 Central Galaxy Flag (g3fc) (5) 97- 103 F7.5 --- CCor [1/1.5] Boundary Completeness Correction Factor (ccbremapped) (6) 105- 109 I5 --- fofgrp [1/22909] FoF Group Identifier (fofgrp) 110- 111 A2 --- --- [.0] 113- 121 F9.5 deg RAFdeg [130/237.5] FoF Group Center RA J2000 (fofgrpradeg) 123- 130 F8.5 deg DEFdeg [-1/50] FoF Group Center Dec J2000 (fofgrpdedeg) 132- 137 F6.1 km/s czfof [2525/7505] FoF Group Center cz (fofgrpcz) (2) 139 I1 --- fofin [0/1] In-Volume Flag for FoF Groups (involfof) (1) 141- 145 F5.1 --- Ngfof [1/250] Number of Galaxies in FoF Group (fofgrpn) 147- 152 F6.2 mag rMAGfof [-26.6/-13.5] FoF Group-Integrated r-Band absolute magnitude (fofgrpabsrmag) 154- 158 F5.2 [Msun] logMhvirfof [10.8/14.6] FoF HAM Log Group Mass (337b) (foflogmhvir) (3) 160- 164 F5.2 [Msun] logMh280fof [10.6/14.51] FoF HAM Log Group Mass (280b) (foflogmh280) (4) 166- 170 F5.2 [Msun] logMHIfof [6.5/11.1] FoF Log Group-Integrated HI Mass (fofgrpmhi) 172- 174 F3.1 --- foffc [0/1] FoF Central Galaxy Flag (foffc) (5) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note (1): Group in-volume flag, 1 if group satisfies 3000<czgrp[km/s]<7000. (2015, J/ApJ/810/166). Note (2): Custom remeasured value from Eckert+ (2015, J/ApJ/810/166), provided without foreground extinction correction. A NULL value indicates the value was rejected during SED fitting (see "RejPhot" for measured values). Note (3): NUV foreground extinction corrections supersede values from Eckert+ (2015, J/ApJ/810/166), which were inadvertently tabulated (but not used) at 10 times the true value. Note (4): Log galaxy stellar mass derived using "cz" to calculate cosmological luminosity distances. Note (5): Absolute magnitude based on custom r-band photometry of Eckert+ (2015, J/ApJ/810/166), foreground extinction correction included, derived using "cz" to calculate cosmological luminosity distances. Note (6): Values include foreground extinction corrections and k-corrections, but not internal extinction corrections. Note (7): Values include foreground extinction corrections, k-corrections, and internal extinction corrections. Note (8): Morphological metric muΔ (Msun/kpc**2) defined in Kannappan+ (2013, J/ApJ/777/42), derived using "cz" to calculate cosmological angular diameter distances. Note (9): HI mass derived using "cz" to calculate cosmological luminosity distances; 0 if not detected or not observed. If the observation is confused, this column reports the total HI mass. Note (10): Upper limit on HI mass derived using "cz" to calculate cosmological luminosity distances; 0 if detected in HI or not observed. Note (11): Optimal atomic gas mass (1.4 times HI mass to include He) estimate based on detection, upper limit, confusion, and/or photometric gas fraction information; see section A.6.2. Note (12): See section A.6.2 for explanations of possible values. Note (13): Local Group-corrected recession velocity of group center, derived using "cz". Note (14): HAM performed using Tinker et al. (2008ApJ...688..709T 2008ApJ...688..709T) halo mass function. Note (15): HAM performed using Warren et al. (2006ApJ...646..881W 2006ApJ...646..881W) halo mass function. This mass function corresponds to an overdensity contrast of Δ=280 times the mean background density as explained in the erratum published in 2025, ApJ, 985, 270. Note (16): 1 if a galaxy is the group's central (most luminous in r band), 0 otherwise. Note (17): RESOLVE-A sky cutoff flag, 1 for groups that have members both within RESOLVE-A and in the larger ECO survey outside RESOLVE-A (i.e., groups at the edges of the RESOLVE-A footprint). Note (18): Group in-volume flag, 1 if group satisfies 4500<czgrp<7000. We do not tabulate E17in ("invole17") for RESOLVE, as all quantities necessary to reconstruct prior RESOLVE membership have been published previously. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: table7.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 3 A3 --- --- [ECO] 4- 8 I5 --- ECO [1/13883] ECO galaxy identifier (name) 10- 22 F13.1 Msun MHIdet [0/63800600000] Galaxy HI Mass from ALFALFA-100 or RESOLVE 21cm Detection (1) 24- 36 F13.1 Msun e_MHIdet [0/19341300000] Statistical Uncertainty on Galaxy HI Mass from 21cm Detection; even if confused 38 I1 --- conf [0/1] Confusion Flag (confused) (2) 40- 51 F12.1 Msun MHIlim [0/2453800000] Upper Limit on HI Mass from ALFALFA-100 or RESOLVE (3) 53- 63 F11.1 Msun limsigma [0/504300000]?
