This database combines a literature and catalog search with new optical measurements from the Fpg (red) and Jpg (blue) band images of the STScI Digitized Sky Survey (DSS). We provide alternative names, accurate coordinates, morphological type, activity classes, red and blue apparent magnitudes, 2MASS near-infrared J-H and H-K colors, apparent diameters, axial ratios, position angles, and number counts of neighboring objects in a circle of radius 50kpc. We also present an atlas of 103 interacting and merging systems among these galaxies. In this sample, all merging and interacting galaxies are A/SF objects. The near-infrared colors of the sample galaxies are independent parameters and do not correlate with activity level or any other parameter of the galaxies. Description: We took the galaxies from a CfA2 strip (See Huchra et al., 1990, Cat. VII/193) 8h≤RA≤17h and 26.5°≤DE≤32.5°, and cross-checked this sample with all known possible sources of active or star-forming galaxies. The optical measurements of these galaxies are based on the digitized F- and J-band images extracted from the photographic plates obtained for the second Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS-II; Reid et al., 1991PASP..103..661R 1991PASP..103..661R). Note (2): Equivalent Morphology classification: -5 = E; -3 = E/S0; -2 = S0; 0 = S0/a; 1 = Sa; 2 = Sab; 3 = Sb; 4 = Sbc; 5 = Sc; 6 = Scd; 7 = Sd; 8 = Sdm; 9 = Sm; 10 = Im; 11 = Im/BCD; 13 = BCD; 14 = Compact; 15 = Interacting system or Merger; 16 = HII. Note (3): When available. The various Seyfert classes are denoted by "Sy1", "Sy1.5", "Sy1.8", "Sy1.9", and "Sy2". The symbol "Sy3" is refers to the LINERs. Starburst and HII nuclei respectively are indicated by "SB" and "HII". Galaxies with Wolf-Rayet features in their spectra are indicated with the symbol "WR". X-Ray sources are indicated as "X" and radio galaxies as "R". Note (4): From HGdLC (Huchra et al., 1990, Cat. VII/193) or when available from SDSS DR5 (Cat. II/276, superseded by II/282). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- History: From electronic version of the journal
